England's recent record in qualifying reduces amost all their games to incredibly inconsequential and meaningless friendlies.
If they don't win every single qualifier they invariably almost do, a defeat is a rarity and usually hardly matters. The summer finals is where they've struggled at times but not qualifying, although tbf the last world cup was decent.
They should only need half a team, if that to beat that dross. Qualifiers are so boring, with the Nation's Cup at least you get matched with decent opposition.
Qualifying can be like trying to outplay and find a way through Southport reserves.

As an old codger of 60 I have
Played football at a fairly high level till I was 21 (2 leg breaks and the possibility of a permanent limp put paid to that )
Managed schoolboys teams at a high level (had Irish schoolboy international and triallists at a few PL clubs )
Took coaching badges
Refereed to the level below Pro football in Ireland
Had coaching sessions with FIFA coaches
So as far as stats go I prefer to use my eyes
Stats will not tell you if a player has courage ,will to win ,desire ,passion to do what is necessary
I go to the states at least twice a year (pre covid ) an I have seen Pro football ,Pro Basketball pro Baseball
I have been to Notre Dame games
American sports are fundamentally different to Soccer because they have been developed for TV not spectators or players
Stats mean a lot to Americans because it fills the gaps in the play
You can judge a soccer player in a couple of games and know if he has what it takes ,and it takes more than good stats to make it
Does he know we could do with a few quid in the summer
3x30m players and 3x50m players would be a good start
