I get that it's just still a weird thing to me. Like supporting a nationality more than a team I guess.
Going back to earlier - are we not the same people that made Rocky IV and Top Gun? I can't imagine an English version of those films without tongue planted firmly in cheek.
You won't see that same level of pride in country from most of us these days, but you still see it in the support for national team players abroad.
Jesus christ. I was actually pittying Chelsea as an Evertonian at one stage during the season.
Champions league final? Fml.
I wonder if Lampard is watching and if he is what he's thinking
How must Frank be feeling right now?
Exactly right, I'm amazed to see fans of teams like Palace wanting Lampard there next season. The media ain't gonna say it, but wow Chelsea's improvement since Lampard was sacked is massive....he really was completely out of his depth
Yeah basically any country but Germany, Italy, Spain and England probably does it to some extent. Maybe France, Argentina, Brazil and Portugal have too many good players to be arsed too. But all the smaller countries seem to care the same.I imagine it’s a bit like Swedes rooting for Zlatan no matter what team he’s on
Dempsey and Donovan are the most commonly discussed, but McBride is our must underrated player for me and proved himself in England as much as they did. And John O’Brien for me was the best player talent wise but was destroyed with all his injuries. Holden was also really playing well before his knee exploded. Then you have someone like Claudio Reyna who should also be in the conversation but I’ve hated him since his giveaway in the WC against Ghana. You’re right though. Current crop is clearly a cut above and things are looking up.Before this current crop the best American player was either Donovan who spent two months of his prime in Europe or Dempsey who spent a single season playing in a top half side. It's pretty different from what the English have.
