Today’s Football 2021/22 Season

Another night where I have no knowledge of there being Champions League games on.

There was only one game of importance on last night, for me, and Barrow scraped through against the 10 men of Scunthorpe (who are rock bottom of the league). Massive 3 points though, a bit closer to staying up and maybe, just maybe, finally getting some stability as a football league club, but a long way to go.

Need an injection of cash in the Summer if we're to stay up again (if we stay up this year).

We have a decent midfield, and the defence is not awful, all we have really needed this season is a regular scorer. If we had that we would be easily in the mid table safety zone right now. As you said though an injection of cash is needed as goal scorers don't come cheap, maybe we can find a gem from the lower leagues but that is a long shot, again, if we stay up.

I agree this is a long shot. The nature of scouting these days means that 'gems' are more difficult to find in that everyone knows about everyone. Hidden talent is not really a thing in 2022. Added to that is the fact that many good players in the Championship are simply loanees from the Premier League so already have a parent club who will have them back if good enough. Either that or players who would traditionally flourish in the Championship have been hoovered up by a big club and find themselves in their U23s. Making things even more difficult is the fact that any emerging talent also end up being signed from lower league clubs before they even make their debuts - often as 14/15 year olds.

In short, the pathway to the PL is not like it used to be. Sending scouts to Tranmere or Bolton or anywhere else for that matter probably has very limited merit.

Very true, the post was actually about my lower league team Barrow but the same does apply across all leagues, it is maybe more exaggerated at Premier League level due to the jump in quality :)

It really is mate, there are only 4 teams in the prem who have conceded more than us, Norwich, Newcastle, Watford and Leeds.

So would we all . But it’s not exactly gone well in that department over the past 30 years has it? i don’t expect a yank to understand it tbh .
So I guess based on your other posts the way it works is we have to hate Liverpool to the point of actively rooting against Everton's interests or we aren't true blues. Sorry, count me out then.

Who said anything about rooting against Evertons interests?

The point was Liverpools success in the 70’s and 80’s was unbearable for anyone born at the time who was a blue , then Alex Ferguson came along and put them in there place for 20 years making life just a little bit easier for blues seeing as other than 4 or 5 years in the 80’s We have done little since the 60’s other than the glory’s days of 84-87. While Liverpool dominated .

so while we are terrible now and Liverpool are pretty good it wouldn’t be a bad thing at all if United actually got there act together. You don’t have to like the mancs but I’d rather isis win than Liverpool tbh .
