Not necessarily sir.
Godfrey
Gbamin
Kean
Iwobi
All players you could say were "long term investments"
Difference is ours are crap.
Then I put to you to what extent were any of the ones you listed there planned and not bought for the sake of it?
Godfrey absolutely, can't really argue the case for the rest of them being planned purchases.
There is a difference between signing a young player with a plan and doing so without. The players you listed above , provide speed , width and a different type of goal threat (individually). Palace replaced aging players with youth in the first team, knowing full well they wouldn't take them to Europe overnight but they all have a year under their belts.
We have never played iwobi the same way he played at arsenal. Whether that would make a difference or not. Gbamin I can't honestly pass a judgement on for obvious reasons and Kean was just a gamble.
I will say we also never played Kean much for him to adapt and improve in a different country. Another wonderful legacy of moshiri is signing younger players and making them the scapegoats for poor performances , to be dropped for the old guard again.
We seem to expect young players to get better without actually playing them much. Whereas a young weak and out of his depth young winger who was given game time here is argubally our best player at the minute. Whereas it seems if we bought him, this club would expect the same outcome with 5 minute cameos here and there.
United won the league throwing a load of young players into the squad at once and playing them. All I'm saying is if we are paying 10-20 million for young players , be nice to actually see them have a go.
