Southgate is correct in saying that most of them booing could not say why they were booing, a very very small group probably started booing and the others just dived in because they cannot think for themselves.

The problem is not the players calling out the reaction towards Maguire but the braindead part of the population who do not know how to behave in a civilised society.

If Maguire got stupidly sent off or something else bad that affected the team in a negative way, the players would have accepted it and moved on, it is part of being a person in the spotlight but what exactly has he done to deserve being publicly booed by a set of fans who are supporting the same team as he is playing in.

In the least patronising way possible, you have been to live sporting events right? Trying to regulate the behaviour of thousands of people is impossible and players need to tune out from this stuff. Especially some mild booing in a friendly.

There could be a multitude of reasons why he was subject to booing. I have no issue with the players or manager backing their teammate but the level they have taken it to is OTT for me- the language used by Southgate and Henderson in particular is really pathetic. Maguire laughing it off would have been the best way to move on.
 
See the scabs are gonna get their way over 5 subs - another leg up for the huge squads and we will have 3 keepers on the bench. Let's make the gulf even bigger shall we?

Also Mad when both reichsfuhrer Shippmann and fraudiola often don't use their full complement of subs even now, and continue to flog the same 14-15 players to death every season, instead of rotating properly, then bitch and moan about the poor players and injuries.

So sick of footy ATM.
 
Can someone please explain the booing of Harry Maguire? I have googled all over the place. How can fans boo one of their own players before the match has even started?

That was in 2020. I can't believe sanctimonious English Soccer fans being so hostile to one of their own. Move on ffs. None of us is perfect ?

Reading some comments a lot seem to be saying it's down to him being so poor this season for Utd yet he is still getting a game, seen a few people say they think it was aimed at Southgate for picking him. At the end of the day you cant force fans to like a certain player no matter how stupid the booing stuff is.

I agree that, as a society, we will never regulate abuse and would never suggest that this is possible, however, calling out and at least trying to shame people who do this is not something I will ever disagree with.

The level they did it is not that bad either, in my opinion. Ignoring it might have been the best option but I suppose when your good friend and colleague comes under what can easily be deemed as extremely unfair abuse it is natural to defend them and use strong words.

It's been obvious for a long time, that if somehow it does not happen now, that it will do soon enough, you dont keep having vote after vote till it gets the ok otherwise - Supposedly turned down on 3 previous votes

They obviously felt it was extremely undeserved and felt strongly enough about it that they had to call it out as that. Not sure what the problem with that is to be honest.

I honestly have no problem with people booing, as long as it is warranted. I wouldn't do it to a player that plays for a team I support but that is just me, other people can do what they want but I would never disagree with somebody for calling out unfair abuse in any situation, whether it be a football game, an office or on the street, especially if they were close with that person.
