@wandyr79
“as long as it is warranted”; who is the arbiter of that then?

Obviously it is subjective and that is why we discuss it.

In this case I agree with the players and manger coming out and defending their friend/colleague/employee (I guess that could be the right term, in regards to Southgate :)).

Give me another case and I might be on the other side of the debate.

Can someone please explain the booing of Harry Maguire? I have googled all over the place. How can fans boo one of their own players before the match has even started?

In a nutshell, Southgate said that he would pick players on form, regardless of who they played for.

In the opinion of some Ingerland fans, Maguire has had a poor season, yet is still getting picked ( because he plays for Man U )

To be fair the fans have a point.

Although it's hard to get much enthusiasm for international matches these days. Club football is bad enough

Correct, there was fume all over social media when the squad was announced. Wet bedsheets everywhere

Never been to a game in Philly, New York or Boston, have you? You're bad, you get booed. You're unlikable, you get booed. You're Santa Claus, you get booed.

I'll come right out and say it: the people in the stadium exchanged their money for the opportunity to be there. If they want to express their non-racist/sexist/etc. opinions, that's part of the deal. If you're a player and you can't hack that, you're in the wrong job. It's part of the price of being an entertainer, or other individual in the public eye. You get put on a pedestal, you get judged. If you're found wanting, you're going to hear about it.

When I hear people like Southgate, Henderson and Kane taking this stance, it tells me how deep their contempt for us goes. It tells me that they think that a fan's job is to pay money to sit there like a good little boy or girl and support them unconditionally. It tells me that they think that they're entitled to our unconditional love, but that they're not under the reverse obligation. If they want to have that kind of relationship with us, they could try building it rather than whine about how we're not giving them their due. It has worked for athletes and entertainers in the past.
