I think it’s virtually always the case with leg breaks that the ref kinda panics - it’s not right but I do understand why they do it

Its very easy for them to do. If it's a complete wrong decision the leg break will overshadow the decision in the media. Don't give a card and it turns out it should have been a red coupled with a leg break then you become the main story.

Its self preservation by playing the percentages. Footbal law doesn't even enter into it at that point.
