Close the gap means close the gap mate, it doesnt mean be on the same level.

I cant believe im having to tell Everton fans we have wasted vast sums of money on rubbish players, what a world.

Longer term the issue is more the money being spent by the big teams on players who are far from being elite players. £62m for Cucurella completely changes the whole market and means that sides of our level can't go out and even make incremental improvements without spending astronomical amounts. They've truly ruined the market this season.

I do fundamentally disagree with the principles of financial fair play, but that's a whole other debate, and has nothing to do with how pathetic our recruitment has been under Moshiri. And I know pathetic is a harsh term maybe, but I believe it's accurate to describe how bad it's been.

European football gives you scope to improve that wage bill.

Liverpool sell players, so do City.
CL does. Europa League gives you scope to pay what we do now.

The RS haven't sold a key player in years. Mane went after he was replaced by two different major signings.

And again Tim, Spurs seemed to manage it.

Under Moyes they were on our level, they signed good players, hired good managers and now they steal our best player.

I havent said its easy, but its not impossible, I mean NOW its impossible, but it was achievable, not be on Citys level, nobody is on Citys level.

Constant Europa league is worth more money than people think.

Its not just the prize money, its the tv money, its the increase in sponsorship, its the increase in ticket sales, it increases the clubs attraction to players.

And that is why I have consistently asked for Kenwright to do the right thing, and apologise and resign.

I have very little sympathy for our position because it's been entirely self inflicted. You and me would have done no worse a job. And I still see no signs we have learned any lessons. I'm very fed up at the minute, and seem to be annoying other posters, but I don't see the positives this summer everyone is talking about.

But I do still just fundamentally disagree with FFP for two main reasons...

1. Debt matters as much, if not more than profit or loss, and should be a key factor in any financial regulations for football

2. Business owners should be allowed to invest what they want in their own businesses.

2. Wouldnt go as people think.

Imagine City with no restrictions.

But I think most owners in the league, yes even Moshiri, are quite happy that FFP exists.

Of course, but is the alternative fair either? Owners not allowed to spend as much as other clubs because their club has less fans or sell less merchandise etc?

Some of the clubs in europe are in enormous debt but comply with FFP. The rules aren't really doing the job that they were created for.

Ive said in the past, if such a time we bump our head against FFP and its the issue, then I will scream as loud as most.

But FFP isnt to blame for where we are, currently.

Our issues are entirely of our own making. If it wasn't for regulation, we probably would have wasted even more and gone down by now. I like very little about what the club has become.

Spurs upturn started in the 2007 range and they've always had some amount of money to spend. It takes a long time. You need a ton of luck. For example Gareth Bale becoming world class, wasting the money mostly that you got for him, and Kane coming through and being that level to save you. And that's just to get to where Spurs are which isn't actually winning things or being in the CL every single season like the RS, City and Chelsea are doing.

The biggest problem for us was timing, if we weren't completely broke under Moyes we'd have been set.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The scum 6 have already triple the income than any other 14 side has, so any new sponsorship deal is going to be matched. FFP was terrible and has made football uncompetitive outside the elite of the elite. The sooner the 6 of them bugger off to a super league, the better for the game as a whole. Chelsea are able to drop 50m+ on fullbacks in consecutive seasons and that is probably a record signing for a majority of teams in the league.

I dont believe the ESL was ever going to happen mate (certainly not the english sides).

I think it was a ploy to push in increasing revenue, extra CL spots etc.

England will soon have 5 CL spots - thats not for the benefit of Brighton or Brentford - its for Man Utd or Arsenal incase they aint good enough to finish top 4.

I assume you're a Villa fan - just think if all the other 14 sides in the league stook a united stand and did protests, empty stadiums etc. and then clubs in Germany, Italy, Spain etc followed suit what could be achieved in terms of safeguarding the game we all grew up loving.

But so many fans are blinded by either tribalism or are just happy seeing Mo Salah dance past 3 defenders before slotting home Liverpools 5th against bottom side Norwich to care that they'll never see their own club compete no matter how well run they are.

Yep, I agree -- but I think the non english clubs (I'm really looking at the Spanish clubs + Juve) need the super league to survive the next decade because of the staggering amount of money the PL sides get. I have no clue in what Barca are doing --> what needs to happen for that to be successful?

I do agree with that, and its the basic math that 6 doesn't go into 4.

Yep, I am and I completely get what you are saying. The scum 6 didn't get punished at all from the ESL fiasco and that sorta enabled them more.

Looking around the prem, wheres van Persie? Zola? (M) Hughes? Shearer?
yeah yeah theyve retired. haha. wheres the strikers with the potency of yesteryear?
