Or a minimum of challenging for Europe. I know they’re in a bit of a situation, but compare Leicester’s squad with our own - a £550m tale.
Yeah, im not saying we could challenge for the title or even be a proper top 4 club, but Moyes had us the best of the rest for 13m over 11 years.

Its not impossible.

Yeah and when the players leave we buy different players.

You love to bash FFP and say its the reason we cant compete, you then go from player thread to player thread saying how rubbish the players are Slomes, Toshun, but then try tell me that the reason we suck is due to FFP and the top 6.

Everton wasting vast sums of money on rubbish and appointing rubbish managers is the reason we cant compete.

Tell me that we couldnt have bought a good squad with the 550m we have spent on players and the 60m we have spent on sacking managers.

But you can't just keep expecting to buy diamonds season in season out - even the RS are prone to throwing a wobbler on a donkey like Andy Carroll or Citeh with Mangala, Otamendi etc.

The difference is the revenues of those 2 clubs means they can simply sign another 2x £50 million signings to make amends and keep pushing for the top 4 and not fall foul of the rules.

As we've seen - if we have a summer window of spending £100-150 million on dross it knocks you back and limits what you can do in the following seasons.

The proof is in the pudding - for all the wanking over clubs like Brighton, Palaces etc recruitment they will never be in the CL because the rules in place keep the top clubs up there.

European football, even conference league increases revenue.

But yes, the key is not to buy bad players, something we constantly do.

Palace and Brighton havent had the same level of investment that we had, you know who has? Spurs, look at them.

Its a good dream mate but you're naive if you think Moshiri could have ever had us as a consistent top 4 side season in season out.

FFP was brought in to stop a Newcastle rocking up and doing a Chelsea / Citeh and knocking one of the old boys like Utd, RS, Arsenal etc out the CL spots and keeping them out.

Sure you may finish 4th once or twice or heck fluke a Carabao Cup with a generous cup draw but Everton aint a top 4 team or title winning one in our lifetime unless the rules change or the ESL happens and a breakaway is formed.

For how long though?

2-3 seasons tops before the best players leave cuz we cant pay them all 200k+ a week like City and Chelsea can or compliment them with £70 million strikers or CB's.

The top 4 is the same top 4 every season for a reason.
If you dump that much cash in and do it right, you can then start doing things the Dortmund way. The problem is that you only get one shot to get it right, and that is a massive ask. It takes RS revenue and a couple of big sell-on hits to flush a big cash injection like they did, then get a shot at redemption.

If you wanted to frame your argument as, "If you manage to get top 4, sooner or later variance gets you and ending up Europa or Conference chokes off the flow of young talent," I would be more amenable to that. Even United started having to pay over the odds once they couldn't stay in the CL consistently, and if Newcastle does barge in for the long-term then it will almost certainly be United that gets shouldered aside. They're in a bit of a fix over there, and sooner or later their revenue is going to start to tail off relative to other clubs as a consequence.

I didnt say consistent top 4 club, I said competing for top 4.

Apparently we have just about wrapped up Udogie (for next Summer) and are after Zaniolo.

Need to offload Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks and Tanganga.

Surprised a few Premier league teams haven't been in for Tanganga but looks like he might go to Italy. Decent player.

A well-run club could have used over half a billion pounds to be competing at some point - perhaps not regularly, but at least on occasions and for the top six.

There'd always be examples of transfers going awry, but well-run club would more often than not get it right be that a player who thrives or is at least okay.

Sadly, a poorly run club (replace that with ourselves) spends money inconsistently with more failures than success stories, and it comes down to strategy.

I used Leicester as an example because they've built a good squad on a decent budget but making the right acquisitions in the short and medium term.

They've brought in Tielemans for £32m, Maddison for £20m, Amartey for £6m, Söyuncu for £18m, Fofana for £36m+, Mendy for £16m and Pereira for £20m.

We're not talking small fees for some of these, yet each of them would likely walk into our side and most others, and they'd make a healthy profit on a few of them.

Brighton are another example of a club who are astute: they've had some poor signings, however on a constrained budget they've built a good team.

I see some of the absolute rubbish we've bought for hefty fees and wages, with no eventual resale value and difficult to move on, it shows how poor we've been.

A good DoF supported by a competent board, who didn't allow the owner to freely interfere, could have brought us some success and saved Moshiri money.

Thats fair enough, but again why can Man Utd and Arsenal be run so poorly yet they always compete for top 4 whilst more better ran clubs like Brighton, Wolves etc dont have a sniff ?

Every club thats tried to compete has hit problems with FFP thats knocked them back.

Everton (although we didnt help ourselves)

Leicester (problems with P&S)

Wolves (done by FFP and had to sell Jota)

Villa had to sell Grealish but the way they're spending they'll be hit down the line with them having to sell key players.

Its just so anti competitive. I dont have a problem with "FFP" on the basis that its actually fair i.e a salary or transfer cap across the board so every club for example has a max budget of £100 million a season and x amount of wages.

That way clubs with good recruitment, academy set ups and negotiators would often be the clubs successful but the big TV companies, PL and UEFA wouldn't like that - cuz that means clubs like Brentford and Brighton start finishing above clubs like Man Utd who have millions of global fans tuning in every week and weekend to see them win games.

Brentford vs Real Madrid in a CL Semi Final doesn't make UEFA, SKY, BT the same money as Man Utd vs Real Madrid and THAT is why the system is as it is.

The fans need to wake up to what is going on, PL, UEFA etc dont give a toss about us they aint football fans - we all loved seeing Leicester win the league as we are football fans - they didn't they want Liverpool or Man Utd or Chelsea to win it every season.

The thing is its impossible for any club outside the scab 6 to really put something together long term.

At some stage you get found out and cant just sign a £70 million CF or 2x players for £100 million combined to freshen it up.

Wolves dropped form after a very good 2 seasons, West Ham likely will this season.

Leicester will be just happy they managed to pull off the unbelievable before their slide.
Couldn't have said it better myself. The scum 6 have already triple the income than any other 14 side has, so any new sponsorship deal is going to be matched. FFP was terrible and has made football uncompetitive outside the elite of the elite. The sooner the 6 of them bugger off to a super league, the better for the game as a whole. Chelsea are able to drop 50m+ on fullbacks in consecutive seasons and that is probably a record signing for a majority of teams in the league.

where to start on Stevie. No clue what our style of play is supposed to be, we had 26 crosses yesterday to Danny Ings. Dropped (and apparently froze out) our tallest cb in Mings and stripped him of the captaincy when we were playing a newly promoted team who destroyed us with crosses, physical strikers and a massive height advantage. Made our worst midfielder captain so he continues to be undroppable, his mate Coutinho is also undroppable even though he rarely does anything of note.

I'm still on the fence with him but I find it hard he will keep our fanbase on side when quite a few were very underwhelmed and disappointed with his hiring in the first place. If we start out slow at all on Saturday, the place will turn toxic. (It still might anyways no matter what unless we are up like 3)
