19 points if they beat Wales.

Sweden will have 19 if they beat Luxemburg tomorrow (with one match in hand and +11 already) - so group A probably won't be worst.

Second in group B already has 21 (+24); so probably won't be them.

Second in group C already 19 (+14) with one match in hand - proabably won't be them

Second in group E already 19 (+11) with one match in hand - probably won't be them

Second in group F; is Scotland they have 17 points atm. Their last game is against Slovenia; should easily win that. So they'll have 20 points then.

Second in group G; Italy already 19 (+12); one match in hand.

Second in group H is Bosnia; 14 points atm. They have to play Belgium tomorrow, so if we win against them quite they'll quite likely end up with 17 points. The third Greece still has two easy games; so they'll probably also end up with 19 points (very easy matches ahead so can easily enhance their + goals).

Won't be group I; since both already have 19 points; (if I watch the results tonight + good goals scored ratio's).

So in conclusion; probably Ireland or the second out of the Belgian group will probably be the worst depending on the goal saldo. Ireland has +5 atm I think; Bosnia +11, Greece (+6).

Ps: I am quite tired so sorry if there are some errors there.

Thanks very much Armel. That was very well explained. I appreciate the effort.

Oh I had forgotten to mention that the results against the team ranked number 6 gets discarded. So all the points/goals a team made/conceded in that match don't count. This can change the goal ratio quite a bit, important when there are equal points. Doesn't change a whole lot though.

Practical example: The scenario that Scotland had drawn against Slovakia with 0-0. In this scenario they could have only reached the same amount of points as Holland (who still have a small chance of qualifying - and assuming that they would have won all their remaining matches and Luxembourg ends last in their group). Because Scotland won; it's impossible for Holland to have more points than Scotland. ...

So it would be better that Ireland beats Wales, and Serbia loses to be sure. Or beat Wales with a lot of goals; also okay.

Okay I think I got it.

Atm; the standing is like this.

1) Portugal (15 pts/ -1match) +18
2) Italy (14 pts) +3
3) Denmark (13 pts) +7
4) Northern Ireland (13 pts) +5
5) Wales (11 pts) +2 -- Important still no fixed 6th (also in other groups but less relevant because of higher points)
6) Croatia (11 pts) +2
7) Scotland (11) -1
8) Sweden (10; minus 1 match) +3 -- Important still no fixed 6th
9) Bosnia (8; minus 1 match) +2

Hmm, actually i hadn't even thought of that. would be better for wales if georgia finished bottom, but a 13 goal and 3 point swing isn't going to happen. Had moldova not thrown away the 2 goal lead v georgia it would have been different though.

Would be astonishing if wales draw with ROI and didn't get a play-off spot as a result ... seeing as they would have gone through the whole group unbeaten.

Well yes but they had to find some method to eliminate a country because there aren't enough tickets. Easy solution; beat Ireland. Or in the case of Ireland; beat Wales with enough goals.

The elimination of the results against the sixth is because of the late introduction of Kosovo & Gibraltar and the imbalances that this creates between groups.

..interesting interviews with Beckenbauer and Bobby Charlton on BBC. Seems both were allocated to mark each other in the 1966 World Cup Final. They nullified each other but Beckenbauer says Charlton was the best player in the world at that point.

Controversial perhaps given Pele and Eusebio, but i’m with the Kaiser on this one, Charlton was very special.
