Missing the penalty is irrelevant

Apparently not.

I think this crackpot system only kicks in if the result of the game is "significantly" affected.

As the penalty was missed, it made no difference to the result ergo the matter is closed

Sounds crazy to me.....but I am pretty sure that is the way of it.

The FA defines the new offence for which players will be punished as "successful deception of a match official". Only incidents that result in a player winning a penalty or lead to an opponent being sent off - through either a direct red card or two yellow cards - will be punished.

Sorry @Khalekan, although the FA may impose it in such a way, the rule (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't require the result being impacted.

The wording from the FA mentioned:

Where there is clear and overwhelming evidence to suggest a match official has been deceived by an act of simulation, and as a direct result, the offending player’s team has been awarded a penalty and/or an opposing player has been dismissed, The FA will be able to act retrospectively under its Fast Track system.

Therefore, regardless of how the result impact the final result then the offender (Zaha) should be punished as have other players.

That article is from May.

It has been changed since then.

The result has to be "significantly affected" ad a result of the deception.

They have been hiding behind that aspect since the Oumar incident raised questions as to why other players were not being charged.

And as today's penno was missed, the matter will brook no further investigation.

Phil, it has been amended since that as far as Inam aware.

The wording has been altered to "significantly affecting" the outcome of the match.

They did this because after Oumar the Diving Pool would have had to work shifts to punish every wrongdoer whom was diving all over the pitch

Not to sound obtuse, however do you have any evidence of this as every article I've read (FA and non-FA) do not imply any such clause?

From the FA itself:

Where retrospective action could be taken:
  • Where an alleged act leads to a penalty
  • Where an alleged act leads to a straight red card for an opponent
  • Where an alleged act leads to a dismissal of an opponent [where the alleged act led to the opponent receiving either one of the two cautions]

Or from the FA's rules and regulations itself: http://book.flipboxapp.net/client/fa-complete-handbook#page/351

Good result for Palace that. And the race for relegation heats up even more. You can throw a blanket over 13 candidates. I imagine WBA will compress things even more by beating Arsenal...
