So that's justified him getting a smack on the pitch, getting manhandled by a steward and having a scumbag laughing over his baby brother passing away on social media? No offence but [Poor language removed]

I didn't say it was justified or morally sound and I've no idea about the steward (link ?) or social media posts.

This was someone on a football pitch - and this is a football forum. What if that blurt had a sharpened instrument? Take the identity of the player out of it; this kind of behaviour could literally end the game we love (even if our team is infuriating) as we know it.

I'm not saying that fans assaulting players is cool and acceptable, just that in this particular instance I'm not overly sympathetic towards grealish given the stories about his own behaviour in public.

So if it were a different football again, you'd find it more or less acceptable? Take Grealish out of the equation and consider the potential impact on the game.

From my own perspective, it does seem like violence at football games (or associated with football) is slowly creeping in once again and that's not a good trend.

Yes I'm sure you care deeply every time someone in the world gets punched, especially when the person who got punched is well known for having behaved like a scrote numerous times.
He's now got John Terry coaching him.

*Shudders.

No. It's never 'acceptable' regardless of footballer, but sympathies towards who gets punched may vary in levels depending on if they are a scrote or not. If someone punched Carragher for example it would never be acceptable but you'd probably be less arsed about it than if someone had tried to lay one on Andre Gomes wonderous face.... why ? because Carraghers spat on a kid whereas Andre Gomes greatest crime is making every man feel inferior in his presence.

Its like if you see someone whose been a nobhead for years get punched unprovoked, you know its wrong... but at the same time the guys been a nobhead so many times before that your sympathy lacks somewhat. Maybe I'm being harsh on Grealish, the stories on Villa Talk about his behaviour in public were quite something though.

It was shameful what happened, but in unfortunately I’m not as shocked as I should be. The Hibs fan on Friday attacking Tavernier probably didn’t get the media attention the situation deserved. Make no mistake it’s have been toxic as hell down there at St Andrews before the game. Tribal and a sense of misplaced loyalty that TV pretends doesn’t happen in and around games like this - it was a snapshot of what football loyalties can bring out in people.

Grealish in his first game at St Andrews was seen as the epitome of Villa, the frustrations of failing to beat their fiercest rivals wasn’t lost on the players or the fans, He was subjected to a shocking late tackle in the first five minutes, was captaining his local club, seen as their best player. Did he deserve that? No chance. Cowardly and disgusting. No doubt he can play up to being the pantomime villain and has the Robbie Savages about him but how good was he after the missed swing? Scoring the winner was the best answer for him on a personal level and for football as a whole.

Feel for the genuine Brum fans who will be stereo typed for years as all being the same. Shameful on so many levels, but for those applauding this idiot as he was bundled off the pitch. Have a look at yourself, pathetic.

Mate I watched most of your game yesterday I need to ask a palace fan , honestly what's your opinion on Zaha, it's just I have seen him now a few times this season and I'm not getting the love for him mate, flatters to deceive for me.
I love the fact he was goosing Moyes daughter when he played for United and Davey wouldn't play him !

For me, he has enormous skill and technique coupled with a dodgy temperament which stops him being the player he should be. His biggest failure when he first broke into the first team was his decision making regarding when to pass. He has improved in that area massively but he still gets caught out. Went through a poor spell of form earlier in the season but has bucked himself up since his ban for being sent off at Southampton, scoring 5 in 7. He ties up so many defenders that the space created for others is the main benefit often. I admire him as a player, I'm glad he plays for us, but I don't feel the love like I do for say Wan Bissaka or Luka.

It feels as if some see misbehaving and, on occasion, criminal behaviour as a kind of sick badge of honour. They can target footballers directly, on social media, and a handful are taking it even further by doing it inside the stadium.

One thing that should happen, an immediate measure, is the abandonment of the change in the rules over substitutions which has been agreed by football’s ruling making body, Ifab.

The plan is for players who are substituted to leave the pitch at the nearest goal-line or side-line and walk round the perimeter rather than heading for the technical area. That cannot be allowed to happen as, evidently, their safety cannot be guaranteed.
