He's got United playing some nice stuff though.
That's half the battle.

As Van Gaal pointed out the other day there isn't a great deal of difference between their style now and what Mourinho had them doing. Sit deep, win 50/50s and break quickly. Only difference is Pogba is actually doing the no.8 role properly and consistently and therefore results have picked up.

The true test is the summer when they'll need to buy players and shift a fair few in return. We'll see how that goes.

I hope he's a success, likeable guy and deserves the job but I just have this gut feeling it will end in tears next season... then again given his popularity with the players its hard to see them revolting like they did against Mourinho.

He'll be gone before the end of next season. Appointing someone because the players and supporters like him is incredibly naive, managers need to have long term visions and philosophies. What type of players does he want? What style of football does he want to bring to the club? Who's going to be convinced by him to join the new United rather than another European powerhouse?

People don't want to hear it and idiots like Paul Ince tried put himself in the shop window by referring to it but Solskjaer, 1 or 2 results aside, hasn't really achieved anything as interim boss that many others wouldn't have. That squad went from effectively on strike to going back to work and playing to their usual levels, whoopdy do. The Paris comeback sure, that was really was special and a games like Spurs away and Arsenal at the Emirates in the cup, they were great wins. But other than that everything else was fairly easy.

Pochettino was their man for the long term to build a new dynasty and I still feel they'll end up going back for him. He has a proven record of buying the right players, developing and bringing through youngsters, conducting himself with class (most of the time) and giving off this "trust me" aura to the supporters like Ferguson did even when times are bad.

Solskjaer getting it is a classic example of heart ruling head and Ed Woodward again proving he knows little to nothing about how football on the pitch actually works.
Not everyone can know as much as you.

How do you know he doesn’t know any of this? You’re just speculating everything.

Solskjaer is the right man as he’s done all that could have been asked of him. After Mourinho, I genuinely don’t think United were expected to put up a fight for 3rd this season. Possibly not even finish in a Champions League place. He guided the team past PSG who are one of the real European powerhouses, albeit without their best player and a dodgy penalty decision, and has all of the players on his side, which is crucial. The fans love him and it’s hard to see the players suddenly downing tools under Solskjaer as he’s not the type of manager to pick silly fights with his players as Jose did with Pogba, for example. The fans wanted him, he’s performed well and it’s a great bit of PR for the club all things considered. It could all go belly up next season, but he’s got a good set of players to work with and will obviously be able to further strengthen in the summer.
