It was a classic case of over protecting the Keeper when he's made an arse of it.

While not taking anything away from Spain or who deserved that win, goals win games, and goals not given don't.

It was all in all a quite shocking decision. You might as well not bother going anywhere near the keeper these days if any slight bit of contact is going to be whistled as a foul. Welbeck just stood his ground and De Gea is rewarded for a terribly judged attempted leap and catch.

There wasn't really that much doubt about it, the line official panicked and flagged nothing at all.

didn't realise they were playing tonight but just saw the highlights. The goal at the end, de gea has the ball in both hands and then when it's taken out of them inadvertently by welbeck's head, is that why it's been disallowed?

You're not allowed to kick it out of a keeper's hands etc. if he has it in both hands, so does that still count here?

omg, did the sad add fans really boo ramos? hahahaha jeez, they deserved to watch a loss.

The whole episode has been laughably blown massively out of proportion. Salah wasn't even injured, if he was a man he would have carried on, those sad kopites really need to let it just go, it wouldn't have made a difference to the game just like mane's red didn't make a difference in them losing 5-0.

You can't say he stood his ground when he was moving the entire time. It was only terribly judged because a player walked underneath him so he couldn't land thus the foul. If somebody goes to head the ball and you do that it would also be called.

I disagree, unless the player suddenly changed direction to block or intentionally did so as would be the case with obstruction, he isn't automatically penalised.

Welbeck was in a position where he has tried to challenge for the ball, ultimately realised the keeper has come to claim it and ducked out of the way.

De Gea comes for it, climbs over the top of him and as he hit the floor he dropped the ball. If the keeper comes over what could be bodies in the way its his responsibility to clear them as in a corner situation, as long as it's not an intentional blocking.

The only grounds under the laws of the game for which Welbeck could be penalised are if you argue that he did any of the following:
  • That he jumped directly at De Gea in a manner which was “careless, reckless (demands a yellow card) or using excessive force (red card)”. Given Welbeck wasn’t carded, it must be interpreted as careless – “Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution.”
  • That it was an intentional challenge on De Gea, as “a goalkeeper cannot be challenged by an opponent when in control of the ball with the hands.”
It was clearly neither

It’s hilarious how much people’s biases influence how they see things on a football pitch.

Anyone who thinks that was a foul should be banned from watching football.

I know it’s mainly anti England folk just pretending to think it was a foul but think some are sincere. So weird.

You say this but would you say the same if it was Pickford trying to catch the ball? Somehow I doubt it

If you try to tackle someone, realize you can't get it, try to get out of the way but still knock the guy over it's a foul right? Why is this different?

I don't really feel like getting into a laws argument because I don't think the laws line up with the current way the game is run. I did this on the Richarlison headbutt and found it's pretty non specific on some things so it's better for me at least to look at how things are consistently enforced.

..I think if any of the teams around Man City bought Bale they would have a great chance of winning the league.

He'd be the best player in the prem imo. He's better than players like hazard by a country mile and then de bruyne and eriksen would be up there with him. Eriksen really should have been snapped up by one of the big boys by now imo, better option for barca than Coutinho.

I'm not watching this game either so it's not based on today.
