Maguire and Henderson only get in the squad because the manager is an idiot though lol that’s the whole premise of the point I’m making. That’s not an argument at all, because Maguire or Henderson wouldn’t get near this squad either under a competent manager.
I'll put it another way. None of England's current CBs (bar Stones) or CMs (bar Rice) get near the squads of the 00s and 90s.

But they do though don’t they? Steve Howey was in the Euro 96 squad. Phil Neville and Kieron Dyer were in the 2004 squad. Honestly, nostalgia bias is very real.
Steve Howey the first choice CB of top-of-the-table NUFC. Kieron Dyer was a very good player. No excuse for Phil Neville though you're right

Steve Howey got FOUR caps for England. Won nothing and played most of his career for bottom half teams. He’s essentially James Tarkowski.

Kieron Dyer or James Maddison, let’s be serious. Kieron Dyer or Cole Palmer?!?!

Again, nostalgia bias, a very scary thing. These current players are playing in English sides that are dominating Europe, and Kane and Bellingham are the best players at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid respectively. I’m sorry but these players on another level to the best players in the 96 team who were essentially just really good Premier League players.

Nostalgia is blinding you here my friend, or maybe you feel obligated to take pressure off Southgate/make out like he’s doing a better job than he is. His managerial career will speak for itself at the end of the day. His fanboys better hope the next fella doesn’t stroll in and immediately equal or even better his achievements.

Branthwaite on the bench.

Lewis Dunk and Ezri Konsa are on the pitch before Branthwaite.

I don't like England anyway but the blindness and short termism in that clowns international management is staggering.

Hope Jarrad has some Irish in him or probably, being from near the border, Scottish.

Kieron Dyer could also play as a CM or wing back. I wasn’t comparing him to attacking midfielders
