There was a Spurs player a few years back who literally said football was a job for him and nothing more, he didn't actually like it much or the culture around it.
Pat Nevin was the same.
Hence his book, the Accidental Footballer.

Pako "the brains behind Benítez" Ayesterán is also from Guipúzcoa. Currently assistant to Emery at Villa. They're all from the same region (Guipuzcoa, Basque country) and all played for the same small town feeder club Antiguoko.
Emery is from the same region aswell. and Lopetegui.
I'm not sure that means anything either.
I do know that if Everton end up going for another guy from the same region he'll be shoite.
Yeah he is a clever guy is Nevin, feels like he should have been an academic or something. I remember listening to him say how on the bus travelling to matches the others would be up the back playing cards and he would be near the front reading philosophy books or doing the Times crossword.Pat Nevin was the same.

I think Ben White for Arsenal is the same, i dont think he watches football he just sees it as a job.Daniel Agger was the same for the RS, and you could put Bale in that category too towards the end of his career, unless he was playing for his beloved Wales.
A quick Google suggests Tevez was the same. Some people are merely gifted at the game and have worked hard enough at 'their job' to succeed at it.
I'm guessing that's why he fell foul of Southgate, was probably told to get involved with all the England PR nonsense and off field team bonding and I bet he turned around to Southgate and said "No thanks, this is just work for me and nothing more"I think Ben White for Arsenal is the same, i dont think he watches football he just sees it as a job.
I heard it was because the players were set some kind of homework to read up on some opposition analysis they'd been sent and he didn't do it. Rumours going around were that it was Steve Holland he had the bust up with rather than Southgate himself.I'm guessing that's why he fell foul of Southgate, was probably told to get involved with all the England PR nonsense and off field team bonding and I bet he turned around to Southgate and said "No thanks, this is just work for me and nothing more"
Yeah, essentially, this. He just didn’t want to be there, full stop. No interest.I heard it was because the players were set some kind of homework to read up on some opposition analysis they'd been sent and he didn't do it. Might have been him actually.
He was probably still drunk from the night before or off his face on nitrous oxide, proper lad him, sound though by all accounts.Jamie ohara said he didn't even know who they were playing most weeks.
Didn't Kyle Walker let out a few seasons back that the Man City team never both with anyone else's resultsThere was a Spurs player a few years back who literally said football was a job for him and nothing more, he didn't actually like it much or the culture around it.
I remember Bobby Zamora saying he doesn't really like football during his playing days.Didn't Kyle Walker let out a few seasons back that the Man City team never both with anyone else's results
This will come as a surprise to the Villa board who paid €6m to Villareal to buy Emery out of his contract.....well it is he was out of work
Bit of an odd one is Zamora, apparently a clever guy but there numerous stories from being a player about training ground fights with team mates, and by all accounts he can look after himself and is pretty handy with his fists.I remember Bobby Zamora saying he doesn't really like football during his playing days.
He's now an occasional pundit.
