By 'fine' do you mean not doing anthting other than eek out a 6th/7th placed spot and make up the numbers in the PL?

Oh yeah. I agree...we did 'fine'.

but thats what we do Europe or not. Id rather be in and not loan out Duffy, Lundstrom etc next year

Theres no great science behind it, and like I said teams will adapt, the worry is they have the funds to invest and get rid of the dross like henderson, skittles and toure, then that system doesn't become their only option, I think they will need a smarter manager personally, but they have the resources and with fourth the opportunity

You only get 20m for getting into the group stages so don't worry about them spending 150m or something daft

Best thing that could happen is they get in the group stage and spend 80m on players paying them over the odds wages, Miss out the following season leaving them massively in the crap

Which proves that we didn't need to strengthen just for the tournament, we sustained our league position regardless of whether we were in Europe or not. In fact, we actually got our highest points total at the same time that we got furthest in the Europa League.

Total myth that the Europa League would put this huge strain on our squad, the Champions League would be much worse for that as we'd actually have to play our first team in those games. The Europa's early rounds are a good opportunity to play youngsters and squad players.

If you don't think our team is strong enough to compete in the Europa we may as well give up on the Champions League chase every year.

Only 20m?

Oh Derek.

The prize money is 20m, then theres ticket revenue, sponsorships, its not just a case of only 20m.

It will also allow them to attract better players.

On what basis? Spurs qualified themselves not long ago remember and they've hardly moved away from the rest.

Can you honestly see them lot challenging for the title again next year and playing in the CL? Would be a first for many a year if they do.

The fact is since spurs qualified for the cl they've finished ahead of us every year, which they didn't used to. that has hurt us and is part of the reason we haven't played in europe of late.

I honestly think in this day and age you need a daft billionaire who spends literally the best part of £1 billion on a team in order to secure the players required to build a dynasty. Let's face it John Henry isn't that figure. They may get that daft biillionaire in future when he sells up, but for now the squad they are likely to start with next season will not handle the PL/CL/FA Cup/LC workload without buckling. They just wont have the firepower to achieve anything other than decent placings in the big two competitions...then they face a resurgent United in the near future once the ginger ball bag is sacked and they get a real decent manager in.

What's the difference between a strong Spurs and a strong Liverpool though?

Either one of them getting CL makes it harder for us regardless surely?

Liverpool have been spunking money up the wall already compared to Spurs, who are a more fiscally conservative side. Getting into the Champions League would encourage further spending, essentially consolidating the top 5 into City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal, and Liverpool. IMO.

They spend a fortune on crap every year and it never seems to bite them, like.

Yup.

The only clubs that whinge about it, are the ones that don't prepare for it.

End of the day, the only difference is that the CL is more worthwhile so no one will complain about it.
