Not that much really considering there sponsorship deals
Well they've officially got fourth now and are very much in the title hunt, they have well and truly stepped it up this season and we cant even say it's undeserved either as they deserved it 100%. Its rather depressing isn't it.

Sometimes wonder why I bother with this sport knowing that nothing's ever gonna change long term with regard to us getting top 4

Sigh

Mate they have stepped nothing up

Thank Moyes for this

Do you think Ferguson would have Utd outside the top 4 with a side he had just won the league with

Which proves that we didn't need to strengthen just for the tournament, we sustained our league position regardless of whether we were in Europe or not. In fact, we actually got our highest points total at the same time that we got furthest in the Europa League.

Total myth that the Europa League would put this huge strain on our squad, the Champions League would be much worse for that as we'd actually have to play our first team in those games. The Europa's early rounds are a good opportunity to play youngsters and squad players.

If you don't think our team is strong enough to compete in the Europa we may as well give up on the Champions League chase every year.
So how is my first statements about the brown stuff hitting the fan and it meaning we tread water wrong? The brown stuff happening simply means we cant get the players we are all insistent we need to move up the table in.

I cant believe how many times you read stuff and respond to what you think is there.

Because the same thing happens whether we qualify for the Europa League or not, it's a total fallacy to suggest that qualifying for the Europa League means we'd have to buy cheap and cheerful players just to have the squad to get through it.

You're mad if you think qualification for the Europa League will make Martinez compromise on the quality players he wants to bring in. It simply means we'll just loan out less players like Duffy and Lundstram and make use of them in European games.

Personally I hope we qualify for Europe, that may sound silly, but it's what I hope.

As things stand right now there's the prospect of playing the likes of Wolfsburg, Moenchengladbach, Fiorentina, Inter, Socieded, Villarreal, Lille, Marseille, Lyon. Excites me enough.

If we get through the group stage we could play CL drop outs.
It doesn't sound 'silly' at all mate. You are dead right. You should be wishing we qualify for competitions and achiveing that level.

It's a disgrace these gangsters have Everton supporters actually terrified that the club finishes in a high position outside the top four just because they wont invest in the squad. I cant think of anything that underlines just how twisted out of shape this club is under these scumbags than forcing fans to think like that. They really are the dregs of football ownership.

They make 206m a season from TV/Ticket sales and sponsors

So 100m net spend plus 120m wages is hardly the owners spending mega bucks is it, In fact they have prob make a profit

Turnover: 5th in league, £169m (down from £184m in 2011)

Gate and matchday income: £42m

TV and broadcasting: £63m

Commercial activities: £64m

Wage bill: 5th, £119m

Wages as proportion of turnover: 70%

Loss before tax: £41m (following £49m in 2011)

Net debt: £87m

Interest payable: £4m

Difference being Liverpool like it or not are still regarded as a massive club in Europe.

Signing a far better class of player will not be a problem.
There commercial side of things like sponsorships and the like is all ready on par with United's without Champions League football.
There on the verge of extending their stadium capacity bringing xxx millions a year.
They have shown they will pay big wages if they think the player is worth it (Suarez £200,000 a week)

I could go on but in truth Liverpool getting back in the Champions League is a nightmare for everyone including the teams above them, I think Mourinho knows this and one of the reasons he sold Mata to United. The top 4 may be about to start being between 5 clubs which is something the normal top 4 didn't want especially if FFP actually does what it is supposed to.

My big fear is this season will be last redux. As in we'll play very well in 95% of the games but have two nightmare games in the cup and end up with nothing to show for it.

know what you mean, but thinking long term, i've already seen a lot of positive signs from this season as well as a hope the positives are actually leading somewhere.

with this board it will always be difficult of course - but it's the everton way that i've grown up to.

No, but it means almost for certain we wont progress up the league with that workload doesn't it? Spreading ourselves thin with players of a lesser quality will be a sensible thing to do if you want to survive.

I cant understand your position here: are you saying the EL workload wont affect Martinez's ability to get a CL place?

i'm not sure anyone they've bought bar suarez within the last 5 years are really a class of a player tbh.

you're looking at players like downing, henderson, allen, borini, coutinho, aspas etc. i mean i could go on for 10 minutes here.

none are quality signings.
