It's all these 'free choice' that have bought the politics into it. I literally do not want to have another debate on The IRA or the troubles or whatever.

I was just pointing out that players refused to wear a shirt with the poppy on it and how I thought it was wrong.

I think the active choice to REFUSE to wear one (as they obviously did) is a sectarian statement.

If they didnt feel strongly either way, they could have just put the designated shirt on anyway and not really given a **** except realise they were in a country where we are all in a period of rememberance.

No, by CHOOSING not to wear it you're not making a political statement. It might just not be your thing or you might be passive towards such movements. Or you could not be too keen on British soldiers making life hard for his relatives in Derry.

Each to their own mate.

For me the poppy isnt a political statement. It's about remembering the people who fought and died for their country. That's since WWI, where Irish also lost lives.

We had god knows how many nationalities wearing one today, all respecting the nation and the fans who pay to watch them.

Why these 2 numpties activly chose a different shirt other than the one they were given, heaven only knows. Yes there are wrongs on both sides but over the course of the last century, The UK v Ireland trouble is miniscule compared to the likes of WWI and II.

You'd think people would have moved on. It seems acceptable to some, that SOME of The Irish carry on this bad blood and use sectarianism to voice it.

I'd wear it mate personally and I have most of my family from Derry so I understand their apathy. But it's just that, it's each to their own.

The soldiers were fighting to preserve a free Europe, including free speech. They're exercising it and it shouldn't be no thing mate.

THEY SHOULD SAW A ****ING POPPY ONTO THERE FOD LAD

Do you think if NIK went playing football in Iran and was told it was Rouz-e Artesh day, would he wear a green badge and stand to attention?

Nik would wear his EDL uniform lad and burn all the green badges whilst singing god save the queen

Oh god.

If you call for the respect of our (and Irelands for that matter) dead soldiers you must be a member of The EDL.

To be honest, on this issue at least, they probably called it right anyway.
