I think it's a big risk, given its a easy excuse for fans if things start bad with him. Alot of pressure.

I think in time he could be good player

If a remember correctly Martinez had Cleverly on loan at Wigan a few seasons back and he looked like a good prospect, under Ferguson at Man UTD Cleverly looked decent as well ( difficult to judge as he didnt start regularly)

This season he has been in an under performing team and has been played out of position by Moyes.

I think if Bobby rates him and we can get him for a decent price he could be a good replacement for Osman who I think will play less games next year

Would honestly have Cleverly instead of Colback or Cork. He is no where near as bad as people think, as most have stated, Cleverly has been badly managed the last two seasons, but you can still see the potential. He is somewhere in between Osman and McCarthy, Full of energy and running, tough, great passing range, good ball control, attack-minded, and would complement what we already have as he could partner any of Gibson, McCarthy and Barry (Hopefully), and he can also play on the left or as behind the striker.

Not saying he'll be the most amazing signing, but he would definitely add to what we already have in midfield, and given that he'll be entering the final year of his contract we could get for 4M-5M, maybe cheaper. That would allow us to spend most of our money on a Striker or two.

While I'll agree he was more attack-minded with Wigan, he still only managed 2 assists in 1.600 minutes mate. And that was under Bobby's management.

We need someone who can get 10+ per season. Unfortunately, these sort of players usually cost premium prices.

Barkley only has 2 as well in 2100 minutes mate though and I think they both had 5 scored, so his stats are pretty similar in that regard, don't get me wrong i don't see him as this bloke whose gonna be the answer to the one glaring weakness we have which is a boss door unlocker, i just think that he is a massive potential upgrade over the likes of Osman in the Center and will improve the squad a lot if Bobby works his magic, maybe with the potential to surprise us the way McCarthy has done

Be delighted to see him for anything south of 5m though

Colback is nowhere near as bad as a lot on here think either. He's apparently been playing very very well for Sunderland and the lad will be on a free.

lol mate, think partly thats because hes been getting played and asked to do a role he is no way suited for, look at how bog average Barkley has looked on the left the other day and when he got played in the holding role vs palace
so where does that leave barkley if we sign this lad for the AM role hes supposedly quite good in?

it really does seem like the money could be better spent elsewhere. i dont know.

Be happy to see both of them arrive tbh lad, assuming we sign Barry then theirs no way we can play him as much as we did this season, need to rest him more to keep him at the top of his game all season and Gibson coming back from a serious injury will need to be managed carefully not to overplay him, so will need a much deeper midfield with the amount of extra games we will hopefully have

Think Martinez likes to have options and a deep squad mate, evidenced by the way he has the wingers all pushing each other atm, Cleverly alongside Mccarthy to rest Barry wouldn't be a bad combo tbh either, guess he would be a bit of a Osman upgrade overall, if you see how often many minutes he's played this season it's ridiculous

Who knows where Ross's best position will be in a year or two times as well.
Just think it would give us better depth and as importantly give us Options

Totally agree and the fact Colback will be out of contract and just over the age of not having to pay a compensation fee, makes it a no brainer. No dent in the transfer kitty and a good solid squad edition in which a few are needed with the extra games.

If he doesn't get much game time and wants a move further down the line, then we sell and get a fee and make a profit, a la Jermaine Beckford.

Makes sense all round.

I'd definitely agree there. I just don't want him as our only midfielder brought in this transfer window, we need that "door unlocker" too.

He's young enough to be improved as well mate which with Martinez can never be underestimated as he seems to be great at working with players like that, thought Colback had a great game against Chelsea the other night actually, can see why their would be an interest in adding him to the squad definitely
