Ok, so we can agree hes a wide midfielder and not Sammy Ets or Ross Barkley.

Yup and just saying that I reckon that's where El Clev will be and people will complain about us not playing two wingers when he's actually playing the exact same role as Pienaar.

I've no problem with playing a Pienaar/Arteta type player out wide if they are as good as them.

Problem is, of all the central midfielders, strikers and defenders who have played wide midfield for us over the last 10 or so years they are the only 2 who have actually been regularly any good.

So we should either play a proper traditional wide man/winger who can play that role or hope to get lucky and find a central midfielder who can play it as well as Pienaar/Arteta.

Which is highly unlikely to be Tom Cleverly. Or anyone else in our current squad.

Playing out wide?
Yeah. Different wingers go out with different instructions that fit their abilities, when playing out wide.

Messi and Bale both play out on the right, but both do vastly different things when there.
