My reaction to it is that I am nicely balanced, somewhere between underwhelmed and overwhelmed. Would have felt worse though had he turned us down (which he still might of course) and opted to go elsewhere. Roberto is persistent if nothing else in getting his man. Now, the big question is how the hell does he fit into a 4-2-3-1 because no way is he a 'middle of three' player!

Heralds the start of a new golden generation this. Spine of the team looks incredibly strong in Stones, Barkley, Lukaku and Cleverley. Just need to add the extra pieces to give us more flair going forward - Deulofeu would be a good start.

Im just a bit baffled by the golden generation comment with regards the signing of The Clev.

Problem this season has been a lack of versatility in key areas to get the team moving forward and being a consistent threat. Barry and McCarthy did the job they do, but because we had a lack of pace in wide areas we couldn't capitalise on our possession and hurt teams.

With Cleverley, we bring in a player who can keep the play moving and get us forward slowly but in the right way, and with us looking at the likes of Deulofeu we can play a different way, similar to Martinez's first season. We're looking to flesh out the very good skeleton that's already in place.

We're not far off having a very, very good side. We just had a season where too many key players underperformed and we were tactically naive due to Martinez sticking to tippy tappy without having the personnel to do it properly.
