At this level I would argue that being bog average is tantamount to being terrible.

You need to have a least a couple of outstanding attributes in the premier league to justify a role, even as a cameo, at the top teams anyway.

Except it's you who is wrong and as soon as Koeman came in, he dropped him.

If McCarthy was fit he wouldn't even be on the bench for the league games.

Has he had more than, what, three decent games since he's been here? I doubt it.

Well to play in the premier league at a proper level you need to be in the top 1% of the population. He might be ok in the championship but even there I am not convinced.

At Southampton Koeman had players like Mane, Wanyama and Tadic. The likes of Cleverley would serve no purpose whatsoever for him.

I seemingly keep having to say this but its a squad game, clubs need squad, you cant just have a squad full of brilliant players as they wouldnt all be happy to take a squad mans role, nor can you just play with the 11 best players and sod the rest of them. This seems to be what a lot of our fans struggle with recently. McCarthy, Cleverly, Lennon, Mori etc, all our really strong squad players to have.

If RK had his way he would have brought in at least one more CMF during the transfer window in which case Clev would defo have been surplus to requirements.

As it stands, he is still an Everton player and with both McCarthy & Besic injured at the moment, is likely to get some game time over the next few weeks. As such, we should get behind him when he pulls on the blue shirt.

Agree he won't fit into RKs plans though and I reckon he will leave in one of the next two windows.

Personally, I would prefer to see either Davies or Walsh be given a chance ahead of him, but not sure RK would do this seeing as he replaced Davies in Saturday's squad.

Along similar lines, what a player does elsewhere doesnt really matter. Maybe Koeman would have played him differently to what Pochetino or Benitez has.

Its been five league games! Cleverley has barely featured, Davies has probably played more than him this season.

There's no "guarantee" of course mate, but in the glimpses I've seen of Davies he already looks like he can do whatever Cleverley does (not much) so why not play him instead? Plus Davies can only get better whereas The Clev won't and hasn't since he was about 19.
