2018/19 Tom Davies

When he came into the team first he was full of energy and confidence. That seems to have disappeared under the past two managers - I don't think he is the only player about whom this might be said.

If Silva and Brand see potential, and get his self-confidence back, I believe Tom can shine for us. Again there are some others that might be in the same bracket.

A huge part of being a successful manager is to motivate and support your team - where there is indecision and lack of confidence in someone who was previously performing well, then look to the manager first!

Frustratingly hiis touch often seems too heavy which can put him in trouble - now that the opposition know to close him down quickly. - he needs a little more composure on the ball - but he is one player in the midfield that looks to pass forward and make things happen.

Martinez said young players need 50 PL games before they really adapt, and he’s now had that in terms of PL appearances so a big season coming up. Having said that , they were all as a teenager and with three different managers so I’m prepared to cut him some slack and let him develop further.
Davies is not a top six player (yet?) but we are not a top six team. Our best chance of getting into the top six is by buying the likes of Richarlison, Siggi and Pickford but we don’t have the money for 11 such purchases. So I would much rather see Davies in and around our squad rather than us spunking money on second rate purchase who are no better , only more experienced like that guy from Stoke and the likes of Cleverly and Schneiderlin in the past . Develop the likes of Davies, Dowell, Lookman , Kenny etc and spend the real money on players who can transform our club.

Why would you want people to clap along on an Internet forum blindly if they don't rate the lad? We're here to give opinions, just because you rate Davies due to him being young doesn't mean everyone else has to.

The positivity remark was more aimed at the when at the match and I wasn't just referencing a forum but the everton fan base on the whole.

I don't rate him because he's young I rate the lad because he's obviously got the potential to be a very good player for us. It's not clapping along blindly it's showing support to the younger lads in the squad.

I swear to god it's like people don't understand that young players need to develop to get better. They need to make mistakes to learn from them and yes they will have bad games but as long as they show progressions we should support them. He's just turned 20 for Christ sake, he's been in the squad for 18 months and been managed by 3 different managers in that time.

I think some evertonions think our youth walk out of the academy, in to the first team and are either Messi straight away or crap and need to be sold right away.

The comments about Tom really do make me dispair. Here we have a good young talented lad with bags of potential who's had one full season in the prem.

Didn't have the best of seasons has to be said but only pickford did last season. Yet this lad is labled as "crap" or "championship standard".

Absolute joke how our fans treat our youth. How about getting behind the lad and showing him some support as opposed to ripping him a new one. How about when he trys something that doesn't come off we give the lad some positivity instead of groaning.

No wonder Barkley couldn't wait to get away from this place. I honestly believe that we as a fan base are probably the worst in the premier league for giving youngsters support. Honestly makes me sad.
subjective

he is young - check

he has potential - check

now the big question.... has he lived up to expectations .....

nope

there are plenty of young talented lads with bags of potential, the problem is 95% of them never make the grade as a first teamer in a prem club

he has been given a chance luckily at everton but he has not lived up to the hype imo

Judging a player as a finished product at 20 is one of the worst mistakes of the Premier League.

Barkley never got anything like this. He had excuse after excuse made for him when he was in his 4th full season as a first team player, whenever people so much as suggested he wasn’t playing that well. Davies is getting genuine bile from all angles after a poor first full season in professional football as a teenager.

Sounds very tasty

He doesn't get stick at the games though? It's like DCL, people might come on the forums and say they're not up to scratch but to hear some people you'd think the crowd were booing their every touch.

It's absolutely not an Everton fan thing, it's just the way the world is now. The internet gives us all a platform and so you hear more opinions than you used to.

In my opinion Davies is a decent prospect but - as we so often do - people hyped him up to be something he's not and are no disappointed that he isn't living up to the expectations they had of him. And to say this never happened to Barkley is so wrong it's difficult to know if you're joking. He got pelters on here for years.
