Now send him to Spain or Germany to improve his passing and stuff so he can come back a better footballer.

Marcel says it’s good, ok

Overall this makes sense as a deal. It shows that underneath some of the noise around Davies the management team clearly rate him. More broadly I suspect it indicates there is a commitment to young players from the management of the club and a hope to maximise their value, which to me makes sense.

As regards his performances it's often remarked that players get better while out of the team. It's strange with Davies that the opposite is true. There's lot of comments about how poor he is, yet he hasn't started a game in some weeks. Why would he? We are currently playing very well, as one of the top teams in the league and in truth very few 20 year olds would break into a side in central midfield.

I think he's improved this season, particularly the defensive side of his game. There's a lot more interceptions and tackles from him and he is making more passes (as well as improving his accuracy). None of it is headline grabbing stuff but it's all quite effective.

The difficulty he has is that the team have also improved and I'm not sure he's improved at the same level the rest of the team have. So he still appears (and probably remains) something of a problem for us. The other issue for me is that he doesn't do any single thing particularly well. He looks to do a number of things ok. If you compare to say Schneiderlin, who is limited in more aspects of the game, he is strong at protecting the back 4.

Either way though, he remains one of a number of players we hope to really kick on (like Dominic Calvery Lewin has) through their early 20's. Himself, Lookman, Vlasic, Onyekuru & Kenny all fit into that bracket.

Should offer him in a BOGOF deal with Niasse for 5m. Sunderland might be back in the Championship next season, and we have nice relations with them.

It really sure what to think of the lad he’s a classic jack of all trades master of none type like a knock off version of jermaine Jenas.
I like his attitude and willingness to move the ball forward but. His touch is inconsistent, passing erratic, positioning is suspect and lacks composure under pressure. Needs to develop his situational awareness, ball control under pressure and first touch to be a success for us.

At the moment he's about a 4/10 for most attributes. He needs drastic and rapid improvement if he's to make it even as a squad player for us. The fact that Schneiderlin is picked above him says it all, especially when he (Davies) was a regular two seasons ago. He hasn't developed or improved in that time and it must be a major concern. I can only assume the club wants to keep him as he's English, young, and does still have potential to improve. They can always flog him in a year or two and cut their losses.

Very good news. Still a young player, i hope he gets a full season long loan in a good league next season, it would do him a world of good.
Might still become what we all want him to be, but needs to sharpen up and that wont happen on the bench, and he’s too good for the u21s

As an academy graduate it probably makes sense to tie him to a contract as it guarantees a transfer fee for him and thus clear trading profit if he was to be moved on.

Not sure what he is worth but you would think we could get £10m for him, perhaps more.

That's business but on the pitch I think Tom has an awful lot to do to prove his worth. He hasn't contributed much of note after such a promising beginning.

I think he would benefit from a seasons loan, he clearly hasn't merited sufficient game time already under Silva and will just stagnate otherwise.

Is he? I think that's probably his level. That said, if it's between him playing in the 21s or going on loan, I hope he goes out on loan.

So much was promised after his performance and goal against City in that 4-0 win.
