Can not go into every game, but Tom was defo a better player with Gomes next to him before Gomes got injured.
Playing next to Schnides or Delph did him no favours.

This could be the turning point we were hoping he would have... Consecutive games of starting, getting in a groove, gaining confidence.. Loads of value here!!

I wish I was enthusiastic as you. I've been here before too and have been let down many times.

He might be the only fit midfield player we have come first game.

yep.

Agree that he has no true standout aspect to his game. That's been made worse because there's been no standard scheme under five managers (seven if you count the interims) and I think that's worse for midfielders than any other position.

Looking at his comparables in the squad, DCL has only flourished under Ancelotti who gave him a clear order to stop running the channels and get in front of goal, and with Richarlison beside him; and Holgate, who seemed marginal until he had a good year on loan in the Championship.

Either a solid run in a well-defined spot with good players around him, or a loan. He seemed to do well paired with Gomes (small sample size).

I'm a fanboy, can't help it, I like him.

I don't think he ever played under Martinez, and it's not like he's been shunted around in all different positions, like a lot of kids trying to break into a first team.

Made an appearance straight after Martinez was sacked (Unsworth gave Dowell, Kenny and Davies an appearance i think?). Martinez probably gave him his debut in a cup or something but didnt make many roles.

3-0 home win against Norwich in dead rubber final game.

Bob gave him his debut I thought but see above? He's never had a fixed role in a settled side with a decent amount of consecutive starts either.

Can't argue with much of that and only time will tell. I will say that if Ancelotti keeps using him then he obviously sees something and we should support him.

He wont have much choice but to use him with the lack of options we have at CM tho!

It wont necessarily be a vote of confidence

....like Osman, Davies is brave in possession but that’s where the similarity ends. Davies has nowhere near the same level of quality.

Osman didn't break into the first team until he was 23 though. Went on loan a few times.

As with all our better academy players, I always think we should loan them out for at least a season but never do. It should happen to Tom but don't think it will.

I said yesterday, the difference with Osman was at that time we had very little money, so under Moyes youngsters got a lot more time. And even when they maybe weren’t good enough, they would hang around the squad for years. Like Vaughan and Anichebe.

Do you think a RB of similar standard to Tony Hibbert, would be regular for years under Ancelotti

Let's just wait and he how he develops as a player. He is still very young and when being played before the season was interrupted he was not allowed to play the game best suited to him.
Not turned 22 just yet but has been involved in nearly 100 games for us and even been appointed captain.

I am prepared to wait and see what CA does with him.
