But he’s not good enough to do a job filling in as proven by his last 100+ games and he can’t change a game coming off the bench so what’s his point?

He hasn't been awful in all the games. I agree he's had more bad than good but I wonder if that can be in part put down to the chaos around him. Maybe once Ancelotti puts his mark down the team he plays in will be more settled. I would have liked to see him loaned out a couple of seasons ago. He may have benefitted from a regular run in a settled team.

Because not everyone can play every week so you need players good enough to do a job. I wouldn't like to see him play week in week out but as a player to fill in he is fine.
His not good enough, he’s actually very average and hasn’t one strength to his game

What makes Davies So special, that he deserves a 5th season in and around the first team.
Markelo, Adeniran, Beni, probably aren’t good enough long term either. But maybe one of them deserves his place next season. And get some money in for Davies.

If any of them 3 can step up I would happily replace Davies. Baningime is the one I'd like to see given a chance until the end of the season but I cent see it happening. The other 2 need loaned out as they have never played mens football.

Again though, why? He did absolutely zero out on loan and is apparently showing little to no interest in training. So why do we want him to get a run in the side?

I think he's worth one last look. Apparently he played well in u23s so not convinced he doesn't try. Ultimately he probably isn't good enough but you don't like Davies, Delph and Gbamin are injured who would you play alongside Gomes until the end of the season?

Gylfi. He's not the greatest but he's vastly better than Davies, even playing deep. And then I would sell absolutely everything extraneous and put it into two CMs over the summer.

The 2nd half against Norwich was the only decent game hes had there and they are the worst team in the league. Admittedly Davies had a stinker but that could have been due to playing 90 minutes 3 days previously and not being on the pace for 3 months. I agree we need 2 CM in the summer buy we will need squad players as well unless you expect us to get through the season without injuries.

I agree with this, sadly. Wanted him to be great but it isn’t happening.
He’s one we could sell and get a reasonable fee for. Others will still view him as having potential.
We need to avoid being sentimental and take the money while we can.
It just isn't going to happen for Tom here and i don't know why we keep insisting on dragging it out tbh. It's nearly 100 games now over 4 years and that is a decent run in anyone's book and we have seen little to no improvement from him and he still seems to struggle with the basics that should be bread and butter for any pro midfielder regardless of age. Just on the age thing, well 22 is not young in terms of football, Ansu Fati has played games for Barca this season aged 16, that's 6 years younger than Davies playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world, THAT is a young player.
Another major issue with him is that for a midfielder he still does'nt seem to have mastered even the basics of playing in the role, he is not particularly quick, not a great passer, does'nt dribble the ball, does'nt score goals, is not a great tackler or of much a defensive mind, his positioning is not great either. Now a lot of people go on and on about the changes in manager but tbh that is BS. If Tom wanted to improve as a player he could quite easily do what the top players do and stay late in training for an extra hour practicing on his own, that is the reason they are top players, who knows maybe he does this, but it's clearly not working if he does.
I think some need to also bare in mind that Tom himself has said in a previous interview that he wants to play as an attacking midfielder. Well i just don't see that tbh, he just does'nt have that skillset also we don't play in that way and given how many people want rid of Iwobi for the same reason why keep Davies, Iwobi can at least do a bit of a job out wide which makes him more useful than Davies. Football is a fairly short career and it can also be even shorter if injuries occur which for me is why we need to loan him out for a year to see what he does somewhere else and actually starts to finally improve his game or sell him. He is getting an easy ride here at the moment because he is a local lad, i doubt very much if any of the other top half teams would come in for him imo. I think if it was'nt for the Gbamin mess he would be out on loan or sold.
I think people are in denial with him. A young player has to excel at something to be considered a prospect. Look at Richarlison, Greenwood, Elliott, Maddison and Grealish when they were his age (Greenwood is younger I know). They all excelled at some aspect of football and put in consistent improvement season on season.
Im sorry but he’s showing none of this and is never reaching those heights, he will be a squad player at best and there’s no shame in that.

I will invite a comparison with a player we all know well: Leon Osman. I’m not going to be drawn into an argument with the people who think Osman was a top class midfielder because he wasn’t, he was never an athlete and he wasn’t strong or even remotely good at defending but he was technically proficient, could sometimes jiggle past a man and could hit a shot or a nice pass at the end of his move. He wasn’t special and should probably have been more of a squad player but he had things he could excel at in his locker.

Davies has none of this, and he likely won’t even reach the modest heights of Leon Osman and for a club that’s where we are we should be replacing him as soon as possible.
A couple of simple questions you should ask yourself when you think about Tom Davies.

Would you want Harry Winks in Everton's midfield?

Would you want Lewis Cook in Everton's midfield?

I'm going to guess the answer to both of those is a massive fat no.

So why should we persist with Tom Davies in midfield.
I think we were seeing something he could turn into rather than something he was if that makes sense, although I will admit he was quite dynamic compared with the rest of our midfield (not hard) when he came in. I see people say he gets stick for being a local lad but I think he gets stick for not being good enough and the local lad sentimentalism is going to see him hanging around way longer than he should.
If he’s Mason and DCL’s mate I’d keep him
Davies is a bit like John Ebbrell. He was never fully appreciated either. Not really good enough to be a starter but the type of player that is ideal to have in your squad. If he's not in the team will be disappointed but won't rock the boat either. Ultimately we would like 2 world class players in every position but it's never going to happen. I hope we stick with him as a squad player.
The players of the quality to not substantial weaken the team don't want to come here and be 4th/5th choice midfielder. If everyone was fit he wouldn't make the bench. No decent player is going to come here and kick his heels when everyone is fit. He is also good friends with 2 of our better players Holgate and DCL which will help with team spirit.

Weve got DCL / Holgate who finally turned a corner between 22/23.

Alot of posters were here slating them every day of the week and yet they would have been in the last England squad.

In fact if Holgate was made Everton captain and DCL vice captain i dont think there would be too many complaints.

Davies has just turned 21. Hes 2 seasons behind those two players.

If were aiming for 2 players per position then we have 4 centre mids needed. Id say lets keep Davies as a 5th choice and see what happens with him.

A switch could be flicked...or not but in any case i imagine Ancelotti would be wondering the same as all of us.

Should he stay or go? Who knows lol

Davies hasn’t just turned 21, he’s actually 22 tomorrow.

He didn't cost anything and is home grown, both attributes that will get him into the squad. He's not a worldbeater, but he's good enough that we don't need to spend money to replace him urgently, so the money can be spent elsewhere on the pitch. In that way, he has a value to us.
