I agree with this and have said as much myself, but genuine question; at what point would you say it's OK to decide whether somebody is good enough or not? You can't wait indefinitely to make a judgement, so when would you say it's OK to 'badge' them?

....it’s a very good point. Silva/Brands will have a view on these youngsters, the fact Davies was given the captaincy suggests they rate him but they won’t keep him if he fails to deliver.

His situation is fascinating, I have no idea why Davies has not been included in match day squads. If we knew the answer to that question we’d have a much better understanding of his standing with Silva.

Great to hear he had a good game.

Was thrown in at a young age when the team was awful, he never hid and took the captains armband.

Maybe the pressure got to him a bit as he seemed to lose his composure and couldn’t pass the ball 5 yards at times, then of course the fans were writing him off and saying he’s not good enough and moaning.

I dont think there is much of a problem with him just being around and training with the likes of Gomes and Delph, getting stronger and some belief back, then we’ll see more of him of the busy winter schedule.

Well done Tom on your 6/10 performance against Kosovan youngsters, you've sure proven the doubters wrong.

Lol.

... behind Gomes, Delph, Gbamin and Schneiderlin, if we're being accurate.

...Serge Gnabry just scored for Germany and a key player for them tonight. 24 years old, but not long ago struggled for game time on loan at West Brom.

I suspect many folk would’ve called him a ‘Championship Player’ a few seasons ago, but it’s proof that it’s wrong to badge youngsters because we really don’t know how things will work out.

yep..loads of players seem to get written off at a young age, hopefully he will come back stronger

The Gnabry example isn't the b3at one to use.
Pulis got it badly wrong.
He was talented and for some stupid reason Arsenal sent him to the most flare free manager in football.
He never looked like a championship player, just a good young player playing his way back to fitness after a year out. Think what he's done since proves Pulis is a useless dinosaur

It's nice to see some genuine discussion about young players, rather than just we hate him cos his clothes are rubbish (TD, Lookman) or cos he's just showing off his body & looks (DCL)...

anyway. I have a feeling that we may not be clear on what the midfield pairing is like. He's talked (Silva) about a no.6 and a no.8 in that position, right? And Gana was a no.4, is that right?
So I think the issue is that we have 5 midfielders, 6 if you count Siggy for 3 positions
Davies
Schneiderlin
Delph
Gomes
JP
Siggy

I think that ideally Silva wants a no.4 and a no.6, - which I think in his opinion is a holding midfielder or tough tackling enforcer and an attacking forward thinking midfielder, but none of them quite fit that mould, so he's trying it out? Not sure what others think?

Delph + Gomes = great passing and tactics but maybe not physical enough?
Schneiderlin + Gomes = too samey and not enough forward passing?
Davies + Gomes = nobody is sitting in?
JP + Gomes = probably the ideal but nobody knows yet how's that gonna work if he's injured
I'm writing on a lunch break and not very articulate, but the bottom line is there are midfielders he ideally wants but we are trying them out in this situation
