But he was promising, and he is still young. He has probably played more than he should have because we have been poor, and by extension, has played in poor sides. We have absolutely zero balance in the midfield, which is the reason I'd be inclined to give Gomes the benefit of the doubt as well.

But when you experienced players like Sigurdsson and Delph not turning up, or supposed top class players like Bernard, falling over unchallenged, but getting away with because he's a "proper footballer", I think someone like Davies deserves the chance to show what he can do in a side with players who actually care what happens.

And £12m is ridiculously cheap. You unproven championship players go for more than that.

Now, if they come back offering £20m, then you have a decision to make. But honestly, we couldn't even replace him in the squad for less £15m.

I agree with this

Selling senior players is a priority.
Davies at least has the spirit and makes an effort (I think) is young enough to learn, and can change.
Siggy, Delph, Iwobi, Walcott are old enough to have already put in an effort and learned to take responsibility - but they don't They'll never change, and if 2 out of 4 of them are still here after this window I'll be worried. If Davies can survive on the bench or in the squad for one more year, why not keep him as a back up for now

he fits no midfield archetype, I still to this day have no idea what role he fits which I've always said this is his biggest problem and going out on loan would help with that, box to box, defensive mid, deep playmaker type like Gomes or what.
Tom has no physical strength which means he is always struggling with the ball,. Often losing it and not being able to get his passes away when a challenge comes in. He is not energetic enough, very rarely gets into the box to support the strikers so provides no goal threat. He has not progressed at all since his city debut.

The City game wasn’t his debut. It was his first goal. He actually made his debut as a sub against Southampton when Martinez was still here. His first start was the last match of the season in 2016, after Martinez was sacked.

How so?

Weve got Richarlison, Holgate, DCL, Kean, Gordon and Branthwaite all in and around the team. Also one of the best managers of his generation at the helm.

As for @Kever10 comment about £12mil being too low because "we couldnt even replace him in the squad for less than £15mil" this doesnt make sense to me.

Sangate + Santamaria would be around £12mil and there will be plenty more players such as Koopmeiners as well who could be on our radar.

Also Delph (while a total flop) was £9mil so for a 5th choice centre midfielder there would be a lot of options open to us for £12mil.

Selling Davies gives us £12mil but it also enables us to pay that £12mil for each of the next 5 years due to FFP regulations yet his our books immediately. Meaning we could spend £60mil on other players based on his sale.

In addition to this and the expected loans/sales of Connolly, baningime, besic we would still have Delph, Sigurdsson, Gomes and gbamin on our books.

People may prefer to sell another of these players before Davies (e.g sigurdsson) but if no bids come in what do we do?

If we dont sell centre mids then we'll end up with 5 centre mids before bringing Allan or others which is going to be extremely costly on the wage bill.

£12mil for Davies and two of Sigurdsson, Delph or Gomes going and id be very very very happy.
You totally missed the context of my post Zat. I was talking about the negativity towards some players on here, but specifically Tom Davies because that Kever post was the first remotely positive one in 10 pages.

Some of it is toxic and very personal. God hope he never looks in this forum.

But you can look in almost any of our players threads and see similar, especially the younger ones. Some of the stuff posted is quite shameful.

The Everton forum in particular has become a den of negativity. Some of it is piss taking fair enough, but I guess just the sheer volume of negativity about is getting to me and I'm just having a moan

Surely it cannot be true that he might go to Newcastle? I would have thought that the North East with its earthy northern down to earth Geordie fans may not not take kindly to the sort of persona Tom displays. As someone says earlier Fulham or some other poncy London club is more appropriate where he can strut the fashion catwalks or whatever they are called and not feel out of place. I wish him well wherever he goes, as long as he does go. On the other hand he is only 22 and a local lad and might come good some day......... etc etc. Someone is bound to repeat that crap.
