Zatara.

Keeping Davies will have absolutely no bearing on what happens with Delph, Sigurdsson or Gomes.
The manager and DOF will have decided on the players they want to keep in their squad ( I believe the manager like Davies and will want to keep him). The players that are being kept to form the squad are not for sale.
It is like saying we can't sell Tosun so we will sell Richarlison because we can find a buyer for him.

It is my opinion that Davies will be kept... but, that is all it is... my opinion. I have seen absolutely nothing yet to suggest otherwise.

But, the truth is that none of us have a clue what the manager sees as his midfield group going forward.

I think theres a massive distortion with the comparison of Tosun/ Richarlison and Delph/Sigurdsson/Gomes or Davies for example.

One is the best or one of the best players in the team and the other is for sale.

I'll put my main point below;

I think we will roll with Davies, Delph, Gomes, Allan and Gbamin, mate. Allan just comes in for Morgans squad place, in a player trade. If one does go it will be Delph but i doubt he will.

Gbamin wont be back until next year. I dont expect any of those to leave if im honest.

Personally i dont see Gylfi as a central midfielder, he went there last year at a pinch, but he will play more advanced, i dont expect him to leave either.

Besic, Benni and Connolly we will hope will go in some shape or form.

I think 6 midfielders with Allan as the only new signing would be both expensive and short term. We would effectively banking on Gbamin hitting full fitness, Gomes finding consistency and/or Davies improving at a rapid rate.

I find that to be high risk based on what weve seen so far.

I would agree that it isn't like for like.

But, I do believe that players the manager wants to keep in the squad will be kept . They will not be sold just because you can't sell somebody else. That is no way to build a squad... imo.

Well at some point when you are building a squad you are backing your judgement and trusting mate. Its a central midfield built by Brands and we are paying him a lot of money to do it.

At first sight i can understand your reaction, but then when you analyse it Delph, Gbamin and Gomes all missed the majority of the season. What if they are all are fit this season? Then we have added Allan, hopefully as we all expect, that is loads of options. Then Davies is in the background developing. Thats how i see our central midfield options next year.

Im not sure it is above the norm mate, most clubs have four central midfielders as a par number, we have Davies to, on a low wage, no amort, long contract and developing, so his cost in negligible, so a bonus really.

Bernard I can imagine has been given the extra time to go to Brazil but has been instructed to find a new club.

People keep saying Iwobi but https://www.evertonfc.com/galleries/1754488/ancelottis-everton-back-in-training not sure where.

Also states in the Echo article that he did train.

It all comes down to peronal opinions here...

Gomes: one good game in....? Who knows, but its been the same for him since the 2015/16 season.

Delph: I think hes an utter donkey and faux hard man.

Sigurdsson: No words

Gbamin: I think this season should be a very very very gradual introduction for him. Luckily Ancelotti was out 2 years in his own career so should know exactly what to do with him to get him up to speed.

Where does Davies come in here?

DCL: Weve seen DCL getting regular games and really stepping up last season. Davies of course is just under a year younger so perhaps this is his moment to develop at a rapid rate?

Holgate: Looked the part for a few games until the Firminho incident and then dropped. Gone off to WBA and had regular games with offers/enquiries for him upon his return. If we had sold it would have been for circa £10-12mil i think, which as midfielders are generally more expensive than defenders puts him in a similar situation as Davies.

Kenny: Similar to Holgate, off on loan and seems to have had a good time at Schalke until they fell off a cliff upon the restart. They wanted to keep him but couldnt afford a fee and we didnt want to loan again. Brands saying we loaned him to get him regular games and develop.

Looking at these 3 examples of three players each around 1 year give or take further along in their development what does that mean for Davies?

Should he go on loan somewhere to get regular games? Meaning we take a risk on the transfer fee dropping? Should he stay as a squad member in/out which doesnt seem to have done the other 3 any good at all...Or does he start consistently for us?

He could always prove me wrong but if it was me id be trying to sell all of our centre midfielders and totally recycle that part of the team.

It does mate personal opinion, im not prepared to waive the white flag at Delph, Gomes or Gbamin because of injury. I think part of it comes down to Brands and whether you trust his judgment. He has built this central midfield, so either you back it or you question him. Allan will hopefully be added.

I dont see Tom going on loan myself, purely based on PTSD on last season and the injuries we suffered, but yeah its an option now and in the future dont see it myself.
