I'm sorry but I really don't understand why his off-field dressing and spending his money equate to his poor performances? Is it better to stay at home and play FIFA? or are you definitely a better player if you only hang out in Cheshire with other players in their mansions? Or maybe do NOT have social media and therefore never let any fans find out what you're like in private?
I just think that if he's crap, or hasn't kicked on, that's fine, that's different, but surely nothing to do with his off-field behaviour. We have no idea how he trains, how much he trains, and surely his managers and coaches can be the judge of that? Or we dont' trust them with that any more?
Don't like his fashion sense, don't like the way he dresses, where he goes on holiday, his instagram feed - fine, but that shouldn't dictate how we judge him as a footballer.
In his first games he looked fantastic. Clearing balls off the line, getting goals, tackling, skinning people, playing balls behind. One of his coaches came out and said 'Yep, that's a Tom Davies performance.' An all action midfielder, it was like he came from a distant era.
I wonder if it partially has to do with coaching. Central midfielders these days almost always seem to get coached into being varying degrees of Tom Cleverly. Tepid as anything. Shame how he's turned out.
I agree with this more, that his development has coincided with Martinez, Koeman, Allardyce, Unsworth, Silva and now only for one year, Ancelotti, so we have crapped on his development, and its hard luck, but if someone at the club, like Unsworth, or Brands, thinks of how he SHOULD Play to suit his natural style, that is much better. Don't make him a modern day identikit midfielder please,
