He deserves credit for losing weight and getting himself fit this year, and for not shirking his responsibilities when given the task of receiving the ball from the defence.

The praise he's been getting in recent weeks is ludicrous, though. Like the other midfielders, he's far too slow in possession, and they're nowhere to be seen when the defence is constantly having runners descend upon them.

He shouldn't be. Him and Allan should be in the same midfield along witt Doucoure (assuming Davies keeps his form up).

He has improved a lot the past month, as he should be as he gets older. I don't think he will ever be a superstar or anything but if he keeps playing the way he has been then he is a perfectly acceptable top flight midfielder. Not everyone is going to be a superstar, there is a role for him going forward though.
This tbh, i don't see why he can't become a Henderson type. We know he is never going to be a superstar as he just does'nt have the technical skill but he can still be effective at what he does do with his workrate and the fact he is a local lad and understands the club means he may make a future captain for us.

I disagree. He has shown little improvement in 5 years of being around the first team squad, the last month has been better but he's still not up to scratch to play for a club aiming for Europe. I just can't bring myself to believe he's the answer going forward...

Nobody is saying he is the answer though. I suppose it depends on what the question is.

Is he going to lead if to domestic and European glory by being one of the best midfielders around? No of course not.

Can he provide useful squad depth at a relatively cheap cost? Yes he can.

The same 5 year thing was used on DCL too. All that really matters is his current form and working it if that is now the player he is or if he has just been in good form and thats it.

this is what baffles me with the numpty, blind moaners. they actually appear to be deluded enough to think we should have a squad of 25 world class players.

He's Lee Cattermole lite.

He's done good of late, happy to have him as a squad player. Hopefully he keeps improving. But I'd prefer some genuine quality in midfield. Aint happening in a hurry, so keep at it Davo lad.
