If we can't spend, we're short of funds. The reasons why don't matter.Actually we aren't short on funds. Moshiri has large cash reserves.
We're running at a heavy loss, in breach of or very near breaching various rules relating to profit and loss. So we aren't allowed to SPEND further unless we start bringing money back in, either through player sales or improved commercial activity.
This is where Davies becomes interesting; he's an Academy graduate, so for accounting purposes he cost zero... Any sale is pure profit.
- We have to bring in more CMs anyway.
- We can't keep everyone on the payroll.
- Gomes, Gbamin and Doucoure will all be harder to sell at a profit; selling them at a loss just causes bigger financial problems.
- Allan will take Davies' squad place, with a new starting CM or DM coming in.
In terms of finance, and where he is in the existing pecking order, selling TD makes a LOT of sense - particularly if done in combination with loaning Gomes out and getting HIS wage off the books.
The profit aspect always depends on fees offered but Doucoure and Allan are likely to have sales values that may turn profits plus they earn 3x what Davies does.
