Either way whatever the reason may be (again..if it happens) he will have his reasons and it is no way whatsoever an indication of him not giving youth a chance which is just a complete lie.

Utterly bizarre stuff. I give up because I cant argue the merits of stuff that may or may not happen.

Mate take no notice. Martinez is manager of a PL club for a reason and if he doesn't see fit to play some youngsters then it is his managerial experience that helps him make that decision. We are fans on a forum that have 9-5 jobs or the like and don't know as much about footy as PL managers although we would like to think we do...hence why we are on a forum spouting off. We offer opinions but we do not have any qualified opinions. Martinez knows the players better than any of us and is paid and qualified to make the decision if he feels the youngsters will handle the step up or not. Think we woul all like to see the youngsters coming through but if they are not ready and play then the fans call out the manager andif he is good enough then the fans call out the manager for not starting him sooner. That's football fans for you...we are all the same and like the sound of our own voices when we discuss footy. We all as fans qualify to say if he is doing a good job or not but to start selecting the team is a different matter.

The very second a youngsters shows some genuine progress then he should immediately be in the first team , regardless of age or ability to cope with the pressure involved.
Why is there an inability to accept that the manager and academy staff who have looked after these youngsters since they were small boys and probably know them as well as they know their own children, do not appreciate and know how these lads should be brought along.

Im not defending Martinez. Im questioning why people are giving him crap over something that people think may happen (in terms of wednesdays game) or didnt happen (not giving certain youth players a chance who were youth players under a different manager.)

I have said already further up in this thread that there are plenty of valid reasons to have a go at Martinez. Having a go at him for stuff he hasnt done or may not do is just weird.

You should read back your posts. People are going on what might happen using Martinez past actions as their own evidence to back this up which is a pretty standard thing to do given that he continues to make balls of things. Think hes a bit far gone to start making the right choices now. Think you have your head in the sand if you reckon the people on here are wrong in what they are saying judging by the last 18 months.

Unfortunately I think I started this by pointing out Davies development would be affected by the managerial situation. I do think that has been lost somewhat by the following debate. As with most young players, their opportunities will be affected by how willing a manager is to get the best out of them. Part of that is playing them, but also part of that is knowing when not to play them. Whether we think Martinez is good or bad with youth is secondary to that point.

I have been a big advocate for playing younger players and I think we could have blooded more. At the same time for the Derby I would go in with as much experience as possible. It threatens to be a truly hellish night with them on a role and us badly out of form. We will need big characters, cool heads and experience. Football isn't a computer game, if we get hammered it could do a lot of damage to the squad and the young players. I think we have to treat it as we did under Smith/Kendall. Ie we ar ethe inferior team and we need to have 90% of our focus on stopping Liverpool.

As for Davies I would have him on the bench. I'd start Gibson and if Gibson ran out of steam and the game was close I'd bring Davies on. Connolly I wouldn't start as he will be exposed by Coutinho.

The last thing Barkely needs is a rest, he's over weight as it is. Put him and the rest of the squad on double session, fitness is dire in our squad.

Davies i think is too young to be starting games now....he should be on the bench and brought in gradually for 10mins here and there just like saturday.

Connolly though, if coleman is out he should start the game as otherwise we wont have any fit players at right back.

Dowell and any others i think should be given a few mins off the bench and brought through in the remaining games.

Then reasess in the summer.

But there is zero evidence to support Martinez having faith in young players and it being a myth. Absolutely zero. That's the issue and that's where the discussion has came from.

Tbh I think there is when you're talking about players that graduate from our academy. Playing no youth players against Carlisle or Dag&Red is one. Sending a RB who won YPOTY at a L1 club last season back to L1 when we had no RB cover is another. Playing Hibbert at LB over Garbutt.

There are a few things that have made me think twice about his reputation for being amazing with young players. He's not terrible but he's far behind the best managers in the league for giving youth a chance.

Wouldn't mind him getting extra game time tomorrow to be honest - local lads and derby have lots to prove, just a shame ledson isn't here to dish out one of his meaty derby tackles again!!!
