Toxic Fans - Are They Holding Us Back?

I'm probably gonna get a bit of grief for this but it is what it is.

It's no coincidence that them weirdos over the park, who instantly believe every player who pulls on a red shirt is world class and have this unwavering belief that their team is the best thing in the world, have the seemingly opposing effect on the atmosphere generated compared to goodison.

Best we've done in the last few years is in covid when there was no fans, worst run for them? In covid, when their collective of weirdos weren't there.

I'm not saying that our fans are inferior to theirs, we are better than them in so many metrics it's off the scale. Look at the scenes from yesterday over a couple of ref decisions, and the pathetic toxic response from them. But they almost never do that to their own players, I can only think of karius, from memory.(no doubt someone will respond with a list to prove me wrong)

We do it to our players on a daily basis. Our fan base has become toxic and it was inevitable.

We need to give them support no matter what, like the Palace game, that can't be a one off, that needs to be the culture. Our players need to step onto that pitch with the confidence that even if they're losing 2 nil, the fans will back them. As soon as we concede, most fans are accepting defeat.

We are a fanbase with PTSD, and it's not our fault, we're not out there on the pitch nor in the boardroom, it's years of mismanagement, and corruption from a man who would seemingly rather see the club go under than him let it go.

It's often said that attitude reflects leadership. One look at our leadership tell you everything you need to know. Sadly
Genuinely that’s a really succinct level headed view. BAN HIM FROM THIS THREAD DANNY.

Cheered Lampard's team like he was Kendall, through all his bad decisions. Willing the team to stay up.
This year it's back to Morgue-ison and the demand that the team show something to cheer first and not the other way around.
Should limit Goodison to only the fans that do aways as they're loud for whole games and the performance and results don't matter one jot.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin disagrees.

The fans are to blame for some things but cmon, 65 shots at home and 1 goal, the players are ultimately to blame. We went 2-0 down, got a goal before ht and killed all momentum by the way we came out second half on Saturday, you cannot blame the fans for that!

I do believe there's a reluctance to pass it around the back due to the moan and groans from mostly Evertonians of a specific age range ('the da's'). You get the same moan and groans when we hoof it up and end up losing it, some Evertonians need to work out what they want from a Everton side, convinced most have no idea what they want. There's absolutely no problem in keeping the ball at the back at times, but all it takes is a 1-2 pass at the back for the moans to start nowadays, god forbid we go back to the GK (who is one of the best passes of a ball in the team btw)

It got angry very quickly on Saturday. Before they scored the atmosphere was great, somewhat jovial actually, but I think that was because we were all expecting a convincing win.

Once the first and more so the second goals went in for Luton, the crowd turned and it was a really hostile environment, can see how it would effect the players but it was ultimately down to them (and Dyche) that we were getting beat by another crap team at home.

As a neutral it’s one of the more tougher home crowds I’ve seen on their own players. Can understand fuses being short after all you’ve been through but your players were terrified when some started on them and rather early in the game.

They know how to get the crowd onside, be aggressive from the off, the manager knows this and so do the players.
If the manager and players are passive they will get the crowd on their back, its been like that for years and will continue to be like that.

Too many teams have come to Goodison over the past few years and come away with the 3 points without a fight, that's not acceptable here by the fans.

It’s taken a Luton fan to give ours some hard cold truths. Well said that lad.
