Toxic rival fans

I live in Leeds, a Leeds fan at work told me last week that our result against Brighton was dodgy and needs investigating, as does the late equiliser versus wolves ..he then said he'd been emailing the FA/premier league regularly about our FFP investigation, made me laugh at the time
No doubt he is drafting that anuual FFP letter to the league.

Apparently this morning Jim White, Moshiri's best pal, suggested that we should maybe get a 5 point deduction at the start of next season because of the pitch invasion. Safe to say that media absolutely despise us, yet Jim White is falling over himself all year to suck up to Howay D'Arabia with Newcastle and their blood money.

Only if City do as well and there were way more on the pitch also.

The narrative does seem to be that we have been narrowly escaping relegation every season for 20 years.

Apart from the past 2 seasons we haven't been in serious danger since 1998.

Even when we finished 17th in 2004 I don't recall being concerned about relegation at any stage.

Furthermore from 2005 to 2017 we usually finished in the top 8.
Spot on. Even when we removed managers, this was early on and the situation was far from perilous. It's a false narrative due to the last two years.

What I’ve found truly bizarre is the hatred from the reds, tbh.

When we were half decent under Moyes, and finished above them a couple of times, they pitied us, no hatred, we were just a team to laugh at.

Something has changed recently though, and the amount of reds who are genuinely toxic towards us is bizarre. Genuinely believe they’re more bitter than we are these days.

I guess we fall under the Newcastle category in like 2008. Huge club, everyone wants to laugh at because it’s a huge story. Add into the mix the FFP, and how everyone else is adhering to it, and usually means people want to see us suffer.

The phrase I keep getting is “Self-Entitled”, find me a club who if they spent £500m and found them selves significantly worse off, wouldn’t be absolutely beside themselves.
The £500m narrative I find a little tiresome. It is not a net spend. Chelsea spent more in 6 months.

I don’t care much for plaudits. The respect routine soon slips if you get a result against their side , usually a remark like “bin dippers “ or some other nonsense. Seen it a few times before.

I’m not saying there are no decent fans around, there is plenty , it’s just I wouldn’t take it too literally either way. A lot of people can be reactionary, opportunists particularly in a world where social media plays a big part in their past time.

Personally if I had to choose I’d rather we be intensely disliked for having a great side that wins leagues and cups.

Leeds and Leicester were our direct rivals so I can understand their fans being bitter that we stayed up and they went down, even though the table doesn't lie.

Neutrals, the big story was for us to go down and there's also a bit 9f macabre interest in seeing how far one of the established premier league teams drop once they get relegated. Add to this the fact we've been in the top division so long that we've undoubtedly done something to rile them in a previous match or transfer deal etc then I can see why they'd prefer us to go down than Leicester or Leeds. No real story here tbh.

Interesting post this and spot on.
You are right, after Johnson sold in 1998 we didn't get into serious danger until the last two seasons under Moshiri.
And agree, from 2005 to 2017 we did usually finish top 8, pre Moshiri.

The false narrative of perennial relegation battlers needs putting in the bin - before the last two seasons we’ve been fairly comfortable.

I think there is obviously a number of people who would love to see a big club (and we still are before anyone chirps up) go down which is why many so called neutrals would have liked to see us go.

I also think there is some obvious jealously of what evertonians continue to do week in, week out, home and away - the fans have dragged this team out of the mess the last two seasons, selling out away ends without fail, imagine if we were decent and actually competed or won something?

Some of these other clubs can only dream of a fanbase such as ours and wanted to see us go down. I include recently successful Leicester, Bournemouth, Fulham and the newly hyped Brighton in that - with no disrespect, they will never have what our club has, even with how atrociously we’ve been run and treated by the owner, chairman and board, and that’s us evertonians.

True but, if nothing changes we could be well fighting the same relegation battle next year.
If nothing changes we deserve to be! Seriously, already starting to hear people saying ‘it gone now, lets make amends and move forward. The only one we need to make amends with is Moshiri, the only way he can do that is to throw the other blerts under the bus and replace them wholesale. We mustn’t let this reconciliatory agenda take hold.

If we’d have gone down I wouldn’t have given Leeds or Leicester a moment’s notice, the majority of Everton fans I know would have laid the blame solely at our own ineptitude.

Any fans of Leicester or Leeds blaming us or calling the Brighton result dodgy etc. really need to look at their own team’s failings. They haven’t gone down because we were anything approaching decent. They’ve gone down because they were utterly terrible.

Ive always thought there is,overall, a definite bias against us with referees. The media are blatantly biased to London and the borefest that is Chelsea/Arsenal. They hate working class authenticity however that is expressed. They want cowering little sheep.
