Pab Laa

Player Valuation: £1m
Do we have time to allow youngsters to come through or should we be signing the likes of Khedira, Isco, to make things happen now?

Specifically for centre midfield or across the squad?

In the centre midfield area, the only 'youngster' we have is Davies. Behind him, Onyango is now as of this week training with the firsr team and hes only 17.

If we could sign Khedira or Isco on a loan till the end of the season then thats fine...

The real benefit would be to sign one and remove someone from the squad...for me, thats Besic (not in squad) and one more in Jan.

If we brought in both then we could jettison Besic, Gomes and Delph for example...

That would give us until summer to seek permanent signings + perhaps aid with Davies and Onyangos development.

Its
Do we have any good young Central midfielders coming through though
It's impossible to judge how good young players are through performances in U18/U23 league. The standard is pretty feeble.

Young players with any hope of 'making the grade' need to play competitive football, here or on loan.

Our issue is we don't have the strength to carry one or two players from the youth ranks as we're already stretched (square pegs/round holes) with regard to 1st team squad.

Wenger was 100% right saying you pay for developing youth with points. In such an open season it would be foolish to 'spend' those points with game experience for players who may not be good enough.

Khadeira on loan is an absolute no brainer. I suspect it's as good as done, and we're signing Olsen to free up another loan space.

Our most successful manager had no qualms about buying youth or buying OAP’s. If he saw they could improve the team or the squad, he get them in. Our fan base needs to stop obsessing about age or sell-on values. If buying five players in the last year of their careers got us a trophy, then it matters zilch if the all leave the next year on a free?

Isco and more so Khedira are low risk for me.
If we take them both they’re short term deals... not 5 year deals like Sigurdsson, Bolasie, Basic, Tosun etc...

We’re showing we’re keen on bringing through youth with the excellent acquisitions of Branthwaite, NKounkou and Godfrey and if they can show the younger players a thing or two I’m all for it.

This wouldn’t be the Allardyce Bolton of the early 2000s with your Djorkaeff’s in my opinion.
