Absolutely but despite the hefty wedge of dosh they got for him Id say they came out of the sale and reinvestment very badly
indeed, but that wasn't down to how much money they got, that was down to spunking it all on a bunch of imposters, just pretending to be footballers which is a different argument all together.

I would suggest that if we ever did cash in, we'd spend it wisely instead.

Is the club even in debt anymore? Back in the day selling a player for 40 million would have cleared them with a Marcus Bent signing as an extra bonus.

Real are funded by the Spanish bank; everyone knows that. To think Chelsea would give us upwards of £30m straight up is just deluded is my point - unless you have an insider at Chelsea and know exactly how they operate in their dealings? No? I thought as much.
no they agree to pay. so therefore when we make a deal we agree to pay for that player. Most clubs operate this way, even Liverpool paid less than half for their new striker up front and it didn't stop villa 'spending' the money did it? It's financial commitments rather than buying a player. only the very rich pay for a player all in one and that is even in rare circumstances.

but selling stones for 40 means we only get 20 up front. next year we get the other 20, unless we are in dire financial straights we can use that money still as we know we are getting it. so we can agree to give kiev 10 million next year for arguments sake because Chelsea agreed to give us 20, so that covers the cost of the previous years finances.

Surprise surprise

They said Bale wasn't for sale knowing he wanted to leave and that drove the price to a world record fee. Pocch doesn't want to lose Eriksen and Lamela so said they're not for sale as they're his present and future. If someone came in with £80m for them then they're gone, same for Stones. If we want to be challenging Top 4 and titles one day we - like Spurs with Eriksen - would turn down £40m. How can we ever bridge the gap if we give those in front of us our best and most promising players?
How do you know we wouldn't turn it down if someone was to offer it?

You seem very determined to fume about something that hasn't happened yet. We have had no bid over £30M for him (which was turned down out of hand). How's about you wait until there is a bid, or better still one that's accepted before come to a conclusion about how angry you are about it?

by using a £50m fee to buy a top class keeper for £10m, top class centre back for about £12m and then another top class winger or backup striker for the leftover £28m.

obviously this is an example.

but it is possible to sell him for a massive fee and improve the first team and the squad as a whole. if stones got injured on his debut and never played again, whilst we severely strengthened then that is bridging the gap.

Yeh I'd say hypothetically it's possible but there's no reason we can't do that without selling him over the next few windows. I just think saying Stones isn't for sale then selling him - if it happens - gives the wrong impression and then just invites more interest/bids for the Barkley's or future Dowell/Evans etc.
