Then what was all that nonsense from the spring about Martinez looking abroad for "number 10"? (Source: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-look-abroad-find-no10-9242727)

Outside of his first year here, Martinez has showed a preference for utilizing only one winger in his tactics, and the club have already spent on Deulofeu and Mirallas (new contract) this summer. Unless he plans to revert to the 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 we saw two years ago, I'd have to give a thumbs down to any additional wingers.

thing is mate read the article, mentions number 10 etc etc etc, not one mentions a central player and the only actual player martinez mentions to highlight the type of player is Pienaar who basically always plays wide. too many people got caught up on the number not what was said

That's certainly fair analysis, particularly as far as that interview is concerned.

Yarmolenko, however, does not remind me of Pienaar.

The Echo doesn't know its backside from its elbow.

"But, having failed to secure an EU passport, Everton have lodged an application for an "exceptional talent" work permit, with the player nowhere near the threshold of having featured in at least 75% of his country’s international games in the last two years.

Funes Mori has only been capped once by Argentina, but Everton believe the 24-year-old will qualify for a permit after winning the Copa Libertadores with River Plate.

The fact that the tall defender has been called up for the upcoming friendly against Mexico will boost their case, but with the Home Office having tightened their rules they face an uphill struggle".

"
New work permit system
Required % of international matches over previous 24 months is determined by the player’s National Association’s official FIFA ranking:

FIFA 1-10: 30% and above
FIFA 11-20: 45% and above
FIFA 21-30: 60% and above
FIFA 31-50: 75% and above

Reference period reduced to 12 months for those players aged 21 or under at time of application

As Argentina are number 1 in FIFA rankings Mori will only need to have played 30% and not the 75% stated by the Echo (they were the old rules).

We are using this criteria to get Mori.

'The aim of the current system is to allow only non-EEA (European Economic Area) players who are “internationally established at the highest level” and “whose employment will make a significant contribution to the development of their sport at the highest level.

So we are no closer to improving as we were a day after signing Geri.... Shocking that really isn't it?

deals are in the works clearly.. just nothing over the line yet, but we'll get there. We always conduct our business late in the window. Everton that.
