It's been a disaster if we haven't sorted a playmaker out. The manager reiterated the need for one all summer. If we dont land one (and as much as a supporter of him as I am) my faith in what he says will be undermined severely. He sounds like a man who's backed off from that commitment to bring one in and is preparing the ground for a retreat away for the need for it. He KNOWS we need that type in. Keep Stones by all means, but he shouldn't allow himself to be painted into a corner of having no serious cash to improve the squad, and that's the way it's looking.

Guess all we can do right now is wait and see over the next few days mate, if we don't sort it then it's a massive mistake and we will see on the field the results suffer badly

Thank God it's bank holiday weekend, which means we can all get bladdered and stay that way until the mother of all hangovers fades late on Tuesday, allowing our bleary eyes and alcohol abused senses to focus on who we have brought in!

For me, if Yarmalenko is a non starter, then getting a striker (Charlie Austin and his invisible ligaments) will stop me from cracking open the suicide pill!

It may look that way but it is too early to say. We just have to wait until tuesday night and then judge.

But I for one am praying, maybe irrationally, that it comes off. This team needs some quality direction and that player looks the biz at a reasonable price.

I too have no faith in Billy Liar and his no-action mates on the Board but for years now we have always failed to have just enough decent players to make a bid for the top but we are closer and now with the Stones chapter over, buying the lad from Ukraine would be the boost the club needs.
It'd be fantastic. Literally fantastic.

It's a massive shot in the dark though and one we cant afford and never could toward the end of this window.

There's a lot of people flapping open about the lack of a playmaker signing, which is understandable.

But deals happen late in the transfer window. Especially with us, because we drive such hard bargains. It'll be right to the wire, but I can't imagine us empty handed by the close of business on Tuesday.

Stuff will happen. Watch and see.

We'll have one more bulge inducing, ridiculously unrealistic rumour of a glamour signing
One more terrifying but mildly believable 'Kenwnne Jones' style bed wetting episode
before inevitably signing Aaron Lennon & A. Another - subject to a medical, totally unheard of, from some mid ranking euro league, Wiki and You-tube will catch fire as everyone races to form an opinion.

All depends on the outcome doesn't it Dave though?

I still remember the Kanchelskis transfer saga and in this day and age most would have been calling for us to pull out and swap targets and if we did we would have missed the chance of signing one of the best players i have ever seen play at the old lady

If it came off we would be so amazingly happy we stuck it out, as it looks like it didn't we now wish we'd have swapped targets fast, easy with hindsight

Thank God Kanchelskis was pre-internet.

Got to admit, starting to really worry now.

I've liked the populist messages from Martinez lately and he's clearly playing to the fans and doing it well - nothing wrong with that, sometimes good PR is needed.

However, I'm fearing this whole Stones lark and the PR is to disguise a very mediocre transfer window in terms of incomings.

We need a big signing in the playmaker role very clearly, otherwise we're going to do very well to break the top six.

Watching the game yesterday it was too easy for Spurs to walk down our right hand side and pass the ball inside to midfielders to shoot.
We only got a point due to Spurs being wasteful.
Lennon is the kind of player that would have helped Seamus from being isolated.
Most clubs defend with two banks of four whereas yesterday we defended with just two in front of the four. Which meant Spurs didn't really need to use their full backs to get in the attacking positions they wanted, leaving us no space to counter.

In context mate, our start to the season point wise has been exactly the same as last season, 5 points after 4 games, 1 win 2 draws one loss, 1 draw 1 loss at home, this season played saints city watford and spurs, last season arsenal, chelsea, leicester and west brom, so basically not that much difference in difficulty of game either and we are sat right at the same point.

Kinda highlights we have effectively stood a bit still, we need badly someone who can change that and a very high quality playmaker is the only position that can make a big di9fference.

Start to this season being regarded as decent is because absolutely everyone besides City have been terrible so masked the fact we're no better off
