No ones saying a benteke, just anyone competent would be a improvement, just even a loan.

As you say with the money, that goes to an entirely different argument, ridiculous how theres still not much wedge to work with

I think Kone is ok, and got a raw deal from fans. He scored a cracking goal against Newcastle, and had just come back from being out for around 15 months.

We don't need another striker for a season of 45 games.....we alsohave Naismith, Long and Henen who could sit on a bench, and watch Lukaku play footy matches.

Unfortunately the money issue does have a baring on who we can bring in, and that is were my expectations are derived from....what we can afford, not how great or glorious we think our name is (not saying that's how you think).

For some reason I think Lennon will end up somewhere else, because you would think something would have been sorted by now.
I think Levy is trying to use him for leverage to get what he wants. First he wanted Mirallas although now I think he has moved on to other targets so now it's McCarthy.

In the end I think we'll buy him but there will be no pressure to do so until McGeady has been sold.

Ok, now all that I agree with, but we can not afford to have that level of quality for every position. Surely you see that ???

We either have 2 decent(ish) players for a position, like Jelavic and Victor....or we have 1 top draw and 1 average, like Rom / Kone.

Ideally maybe Rom / Benteke or Ronaldo, but that's just not realistic, mate.

this basically. you can say that about every team in the league - even chelsea and city who have bottomless pits. they obviously have bigger squads but they're in more competitions and obviously can afford it. we're heading in the right direction with martinez - we're starting to build a good squad with a few handy backups coming through rather than just 13 or 14 good players like under moyes.

it was just a bit unfortunate last season that key first team players like howard, distin and barry all of a sudden became finished at the start of the season and instantly our squad looked smaller. we don't have much finances and we don't have europe - it would be stupid to have a great squad of 28/29 players on good wages. we seem to have a lot of exciting youngsters coming through - i don't want us splashing cash on backup right backs when we seem to have players like kenny to step up in a year or two time and stay there.

I dont mind Kone myself, think some of the good things he can do get overlooked by the haters, but hes not the most natural of goalscorers, we'd struggle if it was just him for several games

That's true, but that's not his game, he has never scored loads of goals.

We play with 1 striker, and people want 25 goals AND a top draw target man....they don't exist (for us), so something has to give.

When Rom was dropped, we all wanted it, and we got the alternative...an average striker that cant do half of what Rom can in the box. I think it made people appreciate Lukaku much more.

If Lukaku is injured, I would like to see a different approach to games, rather than just replace him with Kone, maybe go 2 uptop and bully their defenders, Naismith & Kone as a forward 2.

My worry, is who is going to be sold, and I can see it happening late on.....then we would be weaker.

You can look at it that way because thats what it is *so far* we've just papered over cracks.

I'll let you know at the end of the window.

For me we still need (AFTER a center half and a playmaker)

:

A goalkeeper to get rid of Howard, and to challenge Joel

A right back to cover coleman, think tyias is more of a center half who can play there and needs to go out on loan

we definitely need a striker to be a back up to Romelu.

All those and we'll be stronger, until then, nah.

AB. whereas I agree that we could have extra cover in those areas it would probably cost 30m or more to bring in players that would be of the desired standard and we couldn't afford that , not many clubs could.
I think that by the end of season 2015/2016 we will need to see Ledson, Kenny, Dowell and maybe one or two other moving into the senior squad. Even as it is I reckon they could come in and do a decent job as Galloway did at the end of last season.
I think the manager is possibly more focused on bringing in better players and as well moving more academy players up.
At least that is what I would like to see and some of the youngsters do seem to have a genuine chance of making the grade.
