Transfer Window Thread

Why has @the esk closed the Evans thread considering what has been put in the OP by @GrandOldTeam ?

If multiple papers are running the same story with similar transfer fees then it looks credible. People weren't saying ignore them when the Deulofeu reports appeared.

Of course Martinez isn't going to say anything about other players. If we're going to shut down everything until the player has a shirt in his hands we may as well just close the whole forum.

Maybe Martinez is playing hard ball. Get the player interested in the move, then pull out so he pushes for it and United have to come down on their astonomically high price for him!

Hasn't the manager come out and said it's not true?...

[Edit]. Pretty clear explanation here;

Given Roberto has said nothing happening here we can close this thread and transfer talk can continue in the transfer thread.

Will re-open if the situation changes.

I know what RM said today but as with all managers during transfer window time they can bend the truth a little.
I think there may be interest in Evans but if it happens ,as with Lennon, it could be last day.

At present we have Jagielka, Stones and Browning. Unless we get some kind of injury crisis we should be alright for the first number of games.
Utd lost out completely on Cleverley and could do the same with Evans. Spurs are in exactly the same situation with Lennon.
Both Spurs and Utd will play hardball with both of these players right up to the last day, but it makes no sense refusing to sell a player for a modest fee rather than lose them for nothing.
Neither of those players may come to Everton, but they are leaving their clubs.

I have no problem with signing Evans I have a problem with paying more tham 4m for a Utd reserve with no future at the club and twelve months left on his contract. I think he is a decent player.
Ironically if you look at his career stats his career at Utd went into decline after SAF left . He averaged 20 league games a season for the previous five seasons under SAF.
Once he got married :)

Apparently redcafe says it was the switch to 3 at the back with him as the left CB that he couldn't adapt to and it messed up his head but his passing is incredible.

I'm worried about his injury record but I think Martinez could turn his form around and if he did we would have a top 4 quality CB.

Suspect we do want Evans but are lolling hard at the quoted price. Martinez playing it down to take pressure off as he's happy to take it down to the wire to drive the price down. Just a hunch.

Maybe.

But he usually says something along the lines of "dont want to talk about other players" etc, rather than outright state nothing in it.

Didn't he outright state that Deulofeu wasn't a target at the begining of the summer?

He said it was unlikely. Downplayed it, but didn't categorically state there was nothing at all to it. Rather "I don't think it's accurate" and spoke about their transfer ban implicating it.

Asked about the possibility of signing Deulofeu, the Everton manager told a news conference: "Gerard is a phenomenal footballer; we all know that. We enjoyed his time here. I think he enjoyed his time at Goodison, and we'll always have those memories.

"Barcelona's situation is very specific in terms of the ban that they have. So I don't think that information [about Deulofeu coming back to Everton] is accurate, knowing the situation at Barcelona.

"The only thing I can say is that Gerard Deulofeu had a fantastic time with us, and we'll always keep those memories in a good place. All the fans have great memories of him."

With Evans, he's just out and out binned it. "There has been no move on that front – and there won’t be."

We'll open it again should it become credible again.

If we signed any one of yarmolenko, shaqiri or mertens, and ospina, id be happy with that being the end of our business on ins.

Fill out striker, cb and maybe another winger with loans, and try to shift on a few for anything we can bring in, mcgeady, howard, kone being the three imo we need shut of most
Yarmolenko is going to Seville
