There should be plenty of money available. We have yet another extra 30 million POUNDS to spend this summer from the current TV deal. There is then another extra 30 million pound to spend next summer, and then the increase in money goes well beyond 30 million pound a year when the new TV deal starts in 2017. Everton could easily obtain 30 million POUND and then spend it this summer, whether they want to or choose to is another matter.

You convert these figures into Euros and what have you got, an extra 80 million Euros that needs to be spent between now and the end of next summer, and then we will have probably double that once the new deal kicks in. The idea that money is in short supply at Everton is laughable. We have loads of extra money coming our way which needs to be spent.

haha people only realising our name is used against players to get others to sign them.

Happened for years now, look at the level of clubs that sign the players who we are linked with all the time. they are always lower than us but the mention of us involved makes the lower clubs, or fans of the lower clubs more specifically think they are signing a much better player than what they actually are

Only player i can think of that we bought who shouldnt have signed is straquirisi who was peddled round the championship before moyes needed a cheap striker in asap

Assuming Mirallas stays and we get a no. 10 and a centre back, we simply have too many players. If McCarthy and Cleverley played in the middle, Barkley behind Lukaku and this new playmaker on the left then our bench would be something like:

Joel, Oviedo, CB, Besic, Barry, Pienaar, Kone

Which leaves Osman, Gibson, Hibbert and McGeady not in the squad, and this is before we even consider blooding a youngster or two. There's way too much dead wood draining on the wage bill.
Totally agree which is why I'm not discounting the rumors of McCarthy leaving. Next season however a lot of players will be leaving due to their contracts running down and if we swap Lennon for McGeady and get a CB I think we're fine for this season.

Unless someone really good becomes available which is unlikely then we're almost good to go. Hopefully Palace will cave or Dann will put in a transfer request so we can get that one over the line.

why wow? If that's sarcasm then here's a graph that shows how effective Denis Cheryshev was in a team about our level last year.

He's also extremely hard working defensively with 2.2 tackles a game or something like that.

btw - Look how awesome Nolito is.

With the greatest respect, mate. This is the single worst thing I've ever seen.

Two (legitimate) reasons we might not spend this year.

Over inflated market due to the new premiership money and stadium. That and we have a lot of senior players still with a year to go on their contracts.

I'm a weirdo me.
I tend to not believe any transfer rumour is true but I find myself wanting every player we are linked with, fume for a bit then the next link comes along of a player I like then I get all excited again even though deep down I know its click bait/agent rumour/BS.

My thoughts on Wijnaldum (spelling).
Of the 3 quality 'playmakers' we have been linked with Shaqiri, Mertens & Wijnaldum I think Wijnaldum would be the biggest risk as he would seem to cost a little more and because of the league he plays in (although some quality players have come from that league some utter durge has also).
Saying that, I think he is more what we need than a mertens/shaqiri type winger. We need someone who loves a through ball and from the little of what I have seen of him he seems to be similar personality wise to Rom, which could help form a good relationship between the 2

....talking about relationships, apparently Wijnaldum's cousin is Royston Drenthe.

Anyone else noticing a pattern of other clubs agreeing a fee with a club for a player and set to sign them and then we suddenly supposedly "register an interest?" Happened with Ogbonna and now Wijnaldum. Either Martinez hasn't a clue who he wants or the club is back to making phantom bids for players, most probably the latter.

I wouldn't say phantom bids though. Big difference in "being interested" and submitting an actual bid.

Just having a look at your stats mate and your transfer window heat map is quite impressive.

Why Everton should explore Arda Turan loan bid
Opinion: Phil Kirkbride on why Everton should not hesitate to ask Barca about Turkey star Turan

Arda Turan
Roberto Martinez wants to add creativity to Everton’s midfield.

The Blues boss is looking to inject some guile, craft and cunning to a side that struggled to break down defences last season.

But it's time Martinez, as he promised to do, adds those same qualities to his transfer dealings too.

“We have two options, one is to look at the finances and where we are in that league and achieve that but nothing higher,” he said in April.

“The other is to be creative and find a way to reflect what is in our DNA at the football club and work really, really hard to find a way to challenge with the best projects in the league and the best budgets in the league.”

Which brings us onto Arda Turan.

Yes, that Arda Turn.

The same gifted and gritty Turkish playmaker who has just signed a £24m deal with Spanish giants Barcelona.

Turan reportedly dismissed the advances of Chelsea and Arsenal to move across Spain but could he be tempted to England on a short-term deal?

He has, today, suggested he is ready to just train with Barcelona for two months, saying: I will train until I can make my debut in January and I will help the team win every possible trophy.”

But surely competitive football - rather than training all week and then sitting in the stands - is a better option?

Everton should try and find out.

The 28-year-old can’t play for Barca until January when the Catalans' transfer ban is lifted and it has been suggested that the Champions League winners could look to loan out Turan for the first five months of the season to ensure he maintains his match sharpness.

Galatasaray, his former club, were quickly touted as a possible destination for Turan but what about Everton?

Seriously.

Why shouldn’t Everton be on the phone to Barcelona, a club they already have lines of communication with, and be asking about the availability of Turan for the first half of the season?

Turan won’t be allowed to play in European competition for another club because he would be cup tied, so what’s stopping Everton making an approach?

Everton's new signing Samuel Eto'o during the press conference at Finch Farm, Liverpool.Wednesday August 27, 2014

Martinez has never been shy of exploring the full possibilities of the loan market and will do so again before the summer is out.

However implausible it may seem to some and however unlikely it could appear, surely Turan has to be a target.

Of course, Turan might dismiss it out of hand.

Barca may offer a swift and polite ‘No gracias’ but surely the Blues can at least explore the possibility?

People laughed in disbelief when Samuel Eto’o arrived at Finch Farm, didn’t they, so maybe targeting Turan isn’t such a pie in the sky idea after all.

Don't ask - don't get.
