It's not about wasting money, it's getting the required quality in. We were told by Martinez they had identified targets at the end of the season. Well we have got two of those targets in. One a free. So what hasn't more progress been made on the other targets I.e. Submitting a bid. Bobby told us he knows who he wants why are they not here?
Fair point, but I think the possible explanation might be that the market has gone batshit insane at the moment due to the sudden influx of cash combined with some desperate clubs with painfully poor squads. Watford I think have bought ten players; Stoke are busily re-homing half of Barcelona's recently relegated B team; players like Connor Wickham are selling for £9m.

Bearing in mind our first opponents are Watford, I'm happy with what Bobby's done so far. We should be able to beat Watford with what we have, so as long as he gets some new faces signed in time to play the game AFTER Watford, I don't mind too much.

We have dross that needs to go: McGeady and Kone.
We have players who, through either constant injury or age, cannot be relied upon to play many games: Pienaar, Gibson.
We have players who, by merit of their age, will need replacing sooner rather than later: Osman, Howard, Jagielka.
We have players who currently start due to lack of alternatives: Naismith, Barry.

We need more than two in. But I would be perfectly happy if we got the bulk of our incoming players on loan, just to give the likes of Galloway, Browning, Garbutt, McAlney, Besic, Oviedo, Cleverly and Deulofeu the chance to earn their places in the first team lineup.

We also have Hibbert......nuff said

Is it though? Or do we just think it is? We were beyond crap last season.

A rocky start as you put it would be very difficult to take and put Martinez under immediate pressure. Not a good idea.

This is a stronger squad than the one that finished 5th in Bobby's first season once the inevitable centre half is added over the next few weeks.

If for one minute we can leave the realm of reality and say that we have bought Fabregas.
That would give us a likely starting first eleven of
Howard, Coleman ,Jagielka ,Stones, Baines,McCarthy, Cleverley, Barkley,Deulofeu, Fabregas and Lukau.

I think that team would be as good as any in the premiership.

Back to reality, Barry and Mirallas are not even picked. Ten of the team are already at the club.
The point is that the missing piece of the jigsaw, the last piece has to be a "Fabregas". He has to be right, he has to be special.
All summer I have listened to suggestions about players we should sign and very few have that extra X factor that we need.
We need to be patient and hope that when he arrives he is the "special" one.

I think it also highlights just how close we are to having a real top quality team.

Read this story that we are in a race with West ham and Palace for Pato, Corinthians want £23.4m. I think we are out on two counts, one he would probably go to a London club, Two, that price tag is unbelievable for a player who is a long way off the top of his game. I'm not saying he can't be great again, but that would be a massive risk for us.

I would rather get Praet for £10m

Don't worry, mate. If the price is truly 23.4 mil then I can guarantee you that Everton won't be in for him.

We could never afford Balotelli's wages, plus they'd never do business with us over this because there'd be far to much at stake for Rodgers.

But whoever gets him next may just strike lucky as he's got a lot to prove wrong with his next move.

Just watching Celtic and think Van Dijk would be a superb signing, he will no doubt end up at another English club though. Reminds me very much of a young Lescott.

Who tickles your fancy as a new playmaker?

This number 10 (key signing which has to be right etc etc). Who, realistically, could it be? I'm no FIFA, Playstation 'Ron football Manager', so I don't know all the fancy named european/south american starlets out there, but I'm struggling to see an available player thats suits our needs.
