I thought the same until I saw it earlier. Holtby, Capoue, Soldado, Paulinho, Stambouli, Chiriches etc...lot's of lads sold for decent bits of money. No doubt they'll have made a loss on a fair few thought!

Basically, they've sold a lot of players they bought in with the Bale money... and made a loss on most of them.

Well taken in isolation it doesn't mean much. Once you have a hugely expensive squad - such as Spurs - you can sell lots of your outcasts for large sums of money. The net spend table for ten years would tell a different story.
