Travel thread 3.0

@Billy Dean

Its a fairly expensive place, but everything is good quality.

Food/drink

Meatpacking district in Vesterbro (an old meatpacking factory with loads of good places to eat/drink. Some recs there include Warpigs (a brewery and smokehouse, a must if you are into smoked meat etc); Hija de Sanchez (a taco place done by an ex-Noma chef, pretty good value). All the places in the meatpacking district are meant to be good tbh. Mother is good for brunch at weekends, its unlimited pizza and stuff. Fermentoren is very close and is probably my favourite pub, fairly reasonably priced too.

There are Mikkeller bars everywhere, they are bit like the Brewdog of Copenhagen (but their bars are much more relaxed). Good beer but quite expensive.

Norrebro - BRUS is great, big place with great food and beer. Nice and spacious. there is a pizza place opposite that is meant to be good. Himmeriget is another good bar nearby. Some good Mikkeller bars too, inc their ramen bar. Loads of natural wine places these days too, but most opened fairly recently so not been.

Centreish - Cph is a bit weird as their centre is pretty crap but the covered market is good if you time it right, there is a dive bar called Lord Nelson which can be fun and open until 5am or something, good beer and they play 80's punk very loud.

Cheap eats - CPH is kind of known for its hotdog stalls, the DØP ones are some of the best and are dotted around everywhere. GRØD is great for breakfast, very filing porridge. The Coffee Collective is good for coffee. Gasoline Grill - good burgers

To do

Its a great city to just walk around and find things really. The design museum and architecture centre are good

Illums Bolighus is a great shop if you are into Danish design, chairs/lights etc

Ordrupgaard art gallery is a good at least half a day out, its a 30 min or so train ride out of copenhagen. You can buy a joint train/entry ticket at the train station. its def worth it if you enjoy that kind of thing, good food there too. On a clear day you can see Sweden from there

Christiana the 'freetown' is alright, not much more than that really but worth a walk around i guess

I've covered about 5% of what there is to do really but i'm getting a nosebleed as i have written more than two sentences and used a fair amount of punctuation lol
Thanks a lot! I'd give you some rep if I could.

Edinburgh is extremely posh and touristy in the centre. It's great fun as a tourist, but madly expensive to live there according to a mate who does. Mind you, she did have to rent some insanely poncey flat vwry central, so I'm sure there are cheaper areas.

Only been to Glasgow once for a work trip. Got very blasted the night before the conference session I was presenting in. Has to be done. Fun city!
I rate Edinburgh as the best city in the UK, it’s like something you’d find on the continent with its gothic architecture and heavy focus on the arts. Love that it it’s a capital and still very much a walking city, with an abundant of old passageways hiding some great little pubs, albeit with capital prices.

As for living there I don’t get why someone would pay the extortionate prices when you can jump on a train from the centre or Haymarket and be in Fife in 15/20 minutes with easily half or less the price of rent or buying houses. Dead easy to commute, affordable and has some stunning coastline walks. Think the Wirral to Liverpool, except it’s a kingdom with much less scruffs bumming a pound off you and interbreeding.

We're planning a trip to Britain for a few weeks and I'll fit in a match at Goodison Park.

I don't know whether to do it this season, which doesn't leave much time, or wait until next season when we might be in a different league.

Trouble is, I don't want to go to a match we lose and it's impossible to pick one we definitely should win right now.

Will it be easy to get a ticket for a home match early next season. I've got other things to do and I want the warmer weather.

No sarcastic replies like 'we won't win again', please.

Naples in a few weeks if anyone has any recommendations.
fantastic city, stay near spaccanapoli (old town).
the main station area is a bit rough round the edges (being polite).
best pasticceria and pizza in the world,
the footie stadium makes goodison look like the new spurs ground!
salerno is a good day out and the local team is worth a visit for a game.

Honestly, you're going to struggle predicting our results.

I guess losing is part of the Goodison experience. The booos are sound to behold!

US trip for me in a couple of weeks. A bit of hopping around as visiting mainly for my Fiancées brothers wedding, the good thing is that all hotels/accommodations have been sorted and all we need to do is turn up.

Fly into Las Vegas, spend a day or so there, then off to Arizona, a few days there, then off to LA to meet up with her brother, then off to somewhere else in California for the wedding, then back to LA and then back to Arizona and back to Las Vegas for the flight out.

Should be good and as said left all the activities and planning to other people :). Nervous about meeting all the family, in more or less one go, but other than that really looking forward to it.

Really, really anxious though as still need to test and if we are positive then my Fiancée is going to be absolutely devastated (She actually hates the US but has not seen family since the September before the pandemic. Not going out apart from the shops or walks and even trying to limit shop visits to a minimum.

Herculaneum, if you're into history. Same fate as Pompeii but apparently more intact (haven't been inside Pompeii). Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I would also recommend going to Herculaneum, when we visited Italy it was a very unique experience visiting this ancient town with so much history to tell. Archeologists are still unburying the town but what’s available is very much intact, we got to see some beautiful frescos on the walls of some villas that are still standing. Herculaneum is also less known than Pompeii so when we visited it wasn’t packed with tourists, although this was back in 2016. The most creepy things about the town are the Boat houses where skeletons were found. Many of these people died waiting to be rescued and you can still see the agony on the expressions of the skeletons. Here are a few pics of the site. We also had some delicious pizza and gelato in that area although I can’t remember the name of the place :(

Could not agree more. One of the most awesome places I've been.
