Travel thread 3.0

Just got from Whitefish Montana after a golfing weekend, we haven't been down there for 3 years
the prices have gone stupid, it use to be cheap but some stuff has doubled in price, think we will just stay here
in Canada as we had to pay $1.30 for the U S dollar

Where is that?
Is it near Glacier National Park?

I've booked train tickets online for trips in August. Manchester to Liverpool is one which runs quite often and if we miss it can we just catch the next one? Reason I ask is that it leaves about 2 hours after our plane lands at the airport and I suppose there's a chance we mightn't get there on time.

We're going to Blackpool from Lime St on a Sunday and I see that they run quite often, too. Should I book tickets or is it easy to just turn up and get tickets?

Always book myself just for the ease but also you don’t know how big the queues will be in the station. I’ve missed trains before and been able to use the same ticket for a later train to the same destination as well.

I've got another potential problem with train tickets. I've booked three tickets from Liverpool to Nottingham in late August and asked specifically for the 9.51 Lime St train. The tickets were sent - by Trainline - but they're Anytime, not the 9.51 and I wasn't given seat numbers.

I looked at that train again and it has only one ticket left for sale. So, if we get on that train will we definitely get seats? Or is there a chance that we might have to stand all the way? Is it first in first served?

We had a train from London break down at Crewe in 2006 and finished up standing all the way on a train we were switched onto.

you are overthinking it mate,
just turn up early and take you pick of seats,it will be half empty if its a week day.
i take it its an east midlands train, you should always book direct with the train operator, its easier if something goes wrong,
trainline probably dont have access to the east midlands seat reservation system and its so far ahead they arent even available anyway.
that hour standing from crewe in 2006 must have hurt!

…..escaping the country & trying an Iksos hotel next week after they came highly recommended. Mrs Eggs & i with our Daughter, son-in-law and new grandson.

…Iksos as good as reports suggested, I notice they are opening resorts in the likes of Majorca so worth checking out.

As for travel, we were nervous of issues at Manchester Airport so took the opportunity to check our bags in the day before. We stayed at an airport hotel and went directly to security ahead of our flight. It took us no longer than 20mins to get through.

Coming home, Thessaloniki was very efficient and we breezed through passport control at Manchester, although we jumped much of the queue because we had our baby grandson. Baggage came through relatively quickly.
