Travel thread 3.0

Been there 2 or 3 times now and going back again this year…. Love it. I stayed up at Hisaranou last time I went and although it’s livelier I didn’t enjoy it as much. I love mooching up and down the strip and the promenade dodging the human pigeons or spending a day at the blue lagoon.

Everyone I know who has been continues to go back.

Love being on the strip watching the paragliders.

Going to Cork in November and I plan on drinking a terrible amount of Beamish and Murphy's....all recommendations welcome.

Also a place for a cracking Irish breakfast would be nice.
Go the friendship inn any morning midweek before 9am and marvel at how busy it is and how many workies are in having a few swift pints before starting work.

Enough to muddle through.

Went to Uzbekistan a few years back and it was a hassle, hardly any English spoken back then but a mate went in March and said everyone spoke enough to get by.

Failing that offline Google Translate is a great tool.
Right.
I'm never comfortable in places where I can't read notices and street names '

Hi all. Recently became a father for the first time and we're looking to go away between Jan-May before OH goes back to work. Little one will be 8/9 months by then. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of places they'd recommend? Ideally somewhere warmer than here!
Med can be a bit hit and miss that time of year for a beach holiday, saying that depends on the type of holiday you want. Doubt you'd want long haul with the little one,Greece, Spain,Turkiye etc are all good for sightseeing.

Off to have a poke around Kyrgyzstan later this month.

These former Soviet ruled places are ace value, went to Georgia last year and loved it.
Former? lol

Swing by Bulgaria mate x
Right.

An ex of mine when I was in Scotland learned enough Bulgarian to get by when we're here and read things, and seeing as the Russians use our alphabet too she was so confused when we saw an article in Russian and she was like "why is everything just slightly off, is this fake?"

I believe learning basic reading isn't that difficult in slavic languages, especially as it comes to places/roads/streets - start off with just recognising the alphabet letters and then basic touristy words like hotel (хотел), street (улица, usually "ул." on signs; "переулок" also means 'lane' for roadsigns/names) and work your way up from there. Google has decent enough pronunciation of words now too.
