Do you know Romanian now labagiu? lol

Joke aside - it's more of the same, outside of Sofia. When I go back to my hometown it's like time there has stopped, even if there are crowds and all, just the calmness hits different.
Lol, nu.

Well, I can say yes, no, thank you and hello. I tried but my missus just takes the piss out of my pronunciation constantly. I gave up. How very British of me.

I can imagine. It also endlessly amuses me how no decision or action can be made without a huge amount of deliberation or with no particular hurry. Or stuff is done at the strangest times or the last minute, but never in a panic (here I'm thinking about a roof that needed replacing and the in laws just faffed and faffed before doing it all in two days working through the night because a storm was forecast ?). Health and safety? What health and safety. Power tools and sandals are go!

Mean of her tbh, at least you probably tried lol I had an English ex, she learned quite a bit but at first it was... difficult for her, let's say.

Yeah that sounds familiar tbh lol You probably saw that everyone knows a guy who knows how to do something very odd or specific, or people you don't expect to do things - can, and very well.

Ah the Balkans.

Yes, people there are much more self sufficient in a lot of ways I think. Something I really like even though it reminds me of how fundamentally useless I actually am ?

You're not man, don't worry hahah

Difference in being brought up to know how to do things from early, I think, due to "we never know what might happen next" earlier in life. My dad was a telecom engineer and he taught me a bunch of things which I can do to this day and improved on. Had to fix our car when I was young so now I am a lot more confident in doing small things for myself (and there's always the anecdote of "every block having someone working on their car in front", as you've probably been told, which is 100% true to this day btw). Done some bigger things by myself as well, and like reading up on stuff and how to do them... Recently did the finishing spackle, paint and some electrical around the house I bought lol

As a fun story from my Glasgow days - I used to live with one of my friends from back home for a while. We found an amazing place for not a lot of money, which suited us both very well. Well, we ran into the neighbours from below us, as it happens, and they're this sweet older couple - fresh into their pension years kinda thing. Tried to help me get a job when they found I was searching as well. Good peoples.

Man, we did so many small "repairs" around their house just because we know how to do things lol Bless them and I hope they're still okay, but they were utterly useless for a lot of things lol

Guy owned a mint Aston DB6 though, took it golfing every so often. Was loaded basically, despite not looking like it. Loved Eastern Europe as well, knew a bit of Russian and stuff from his travels.

Either way, this was offtopic, so sorry about that! lol

I know Glasgow fairly well and fancied moving a couple of times. Lived in Edinburgh for a few years but always liked nights out in Glasgow more. Just always rains though.

I worked in a Merchant City hotel/bar, either nothing happening for 8 hours straight or something wild, no inbetween.

We were a stone's throw away from Alexandra Park in Dennistoun.

Never been to Edinburgh, though. Been to the Hebrides, Oban, that side, but not been to many actual attractions.

Honestly as a place in general I liked it. As I said - I (and the gf, but mostly me really lol ) want to visit it again, but this time as a tourist.

The mountains are overrated and a bit crap though, sorry fellow scots on here xx

Had an ex from Dennistoun. Could be quite wild round there although I hear it’s getting a bit more gentrified these days.

I love the highlands and the west coast. Skye is incredible. Would love a trip to the Faroe Islands at some point. Would probably be solo or with mates as the Mrs hates the cold.

Tbh Dennistoun was full of Poles and other Eastern Europeans like us, so it was a bit like coming home but the architecture is different, at times lol Don't know how it is now as it's been a minute, but yeah...

The west was great. Mentioned-above ex's mum and dad lived on Uist, so been there a bit. Inverness has the most bizarre airport and all flights there take so little time haha Didn't go on the shortest flight in the world though, maybe next time! :)

They were both useless at housework as well by the way like, I saw the most amazing "fix" for a car's sideview mirror with tape instead of using your hands for 5 minutes lol

Edinburgh is extremely posh and touristy in the centre. It's great fun as a tourist, but madly expensive to live there according to a mate who does. Mind you, she did have to rent some insanely poncey flat vwry central, so I'm sure there are cheaper areas.

Only been to Glasgow once for a work trip. Got very blasted the night before the conference session I was presenting in. Has to be done. Fun city!

Well when I went there I had a few friends who went to Edinburgh and the price differences were shocking, even for uni accommodation.

They also said it's very posh, before becoming insufferable a year later anyway.

Maybe that's why I never wanted to go... ?

A wise choice, you either become assimilated and a bit of a tit or just feel completely out of place. I hope you managed to rescue your friends from the Edinburgh Uni Borg!

Nah, they were a bunch of tits and I'm (retrospectively) glad they're not in my life anymore.

They live here now too btw, but are equally as insufferable and pretentious lol

@Billy Dean

Its a fairly expensive place, but everything is good quality.

Food/drink

Meatpacking district in Vesterbro (an old meatpacking factory with loads of good places to eat/drink. Some recs there include Warpigs (a brewery and smokehouse, a must if you are into smoked meat etc); Hija de Sanchez (a taco place done by an ex-Noma chef, pretty good value). All the places in the meatpacking district are meant to be good tbh. Mother is good for brunch at weekends, its unlimited pizza and stuff. Fermentoren is very close and is probably my favourite pub, fairly reasonably priced too.

There are Mikkeller bars everywhere, they are bit like the Brewdog of Copenhagen (but their bars are much more relaxed). Good beer but quite expensive.

Norrebro - BRUS is great, big place with great food and beer. Nice and spacious. there is a pizza place opposite that is meant to be good. Himmeriget is another good bar nearby. Some good Mikkeller bars too, inc their ramen bar. Loads of natural wine places these days too, but most opened fairly recently so not been.

Centreish - Cph is a bit weird as their centre is pretty crap but the covered market is good if you time it right, there is a dive bar called Lord Nelson which can be fun and open until 5am or something, good beer and they play 80's punk very loud.

Cheap eats - CPH is kind of known for its hotdog stalls, the DØP ones are some of the best and are dotted around everywhere. GRØD is great for breakfast, very filing porridge. The Coffee Collective is good for coffee. Gasoline Grill - good burgers

To do

Its a great city to just walk around and find things really. The design museum and architecture centre are good

Illums Bolighus is a great shop if you are into Danish design, chairs/lights etc

Ordrupgaard art gallery is a good at least half a day out, its a 30 min or so train ride out of copenhagen. You can buy a joint train/entry ticket at the train station. its def worth it if you enjoy that kind of thing, good food there too. On a clear day you can see Sweden from there

Christiana the 'freetown' is alright, not much more than that really but worth a walk around i guess

I've covered about 5% of what there is to do really but i'm getting a nosebleed as i have written more than two sentences and used a fair amount of punctuation lol
