TV Series

Watched Mindhunter, really good was loving it but how they can leave it at 2 seasons with so many stories still developing has really annoyed me.
Crime dramas set in the 70s/80s might be my new favourite genre.

According to Fincher, I don't think we'll see a Season 3 - mainly citing budget and insufficient viewers

Watched the first episode of "The Stand" holding back on the judgement of it as they are only setting the scene at the minute, but the fella playing Harold has just become a kind of jarg Jim Carrey for some reason

3 episodes into the Stand, still not sure about it,it is a difficult book to put on screen but I havent taken to any of the main characters so far, that may be due to the time line jumping to get their backgrounds though at the minute there is no stand out persona

The problem with the Stand is that the book is so magnificent, that unless they threw series money, actors and a producer who would do it justice, that any tv series or film is always going to come out second best. ( the book the Passage is the same - if you haven`t read it, it`s a must )

It`s a monster of a book too, so to do it properly / justice, you`d have to do at least a trilogy, which is a massive risk, especially in today`s climate.

Yeah absolute massive story, dont get me wrong its not bad and I think it will get better once the character introductioms are done,as that seems to be holding the story back

Just battered the 4-part series Night Stalker, just released on Netflix.

Documents the events of the Night Stalker crimes in LA throughout 1985

I’d read about the events previously but this really got across how terrifying a time it was for folk living in LA County. Ramirez was truly a despicable guy.

Frightening stuff. Little did we know what was going on elsewhere in the world, all that terror those people faced at the hands of that guy, while us Evertonians enjoyed the best summer of our lives. Surreal. I don't even remember hearing/reading about this guy.

I didnt know much about him at the time myself, later having an interest in serial killers I read a bit about him, hence the reason for watching it in one sitting, the thing you notice when you watch these is the huge advances detection has made with DNA etc, both him and the Yorkshire ripper were caught more by luck than any great police work

Agreed. The Ripper show was excellent, and like you said if luck had stayed with the guy, if he hadn't got a little careless.....who knows how long he would have been active or how many lives he may have devastated. Same with some of the American serial killers, Gacy and Dahmer to name two ….. back in the day, they wouldn't be famous today (probably only managed to kill one or two) if technology like we have today was available back then.

And society as a whole, one of mistrust and suspicion nowadays, would help rather than a world of free living, free will do what you want of that era - a short while before Dahmer was caught, two policemen were called to a disturbance in the street where one of his victims was trying to escape him, two women called the cops and despite the (must have been VERY obvious) seriousness of the situation (the drugged up state, nakedness and evidence of bleeding of the victim) nothing was done and Dahmer was free to escort the victim back to his home!!! Imagine that scene today!!! OMG! Wouldn't happen!
